2009 tpms

Looking at getting an 09 with the 20" chrome clad aluminum wheels. I have read that the TPMS are in the valve stems. I am also planning on getting a set of the black ultra titan 20" wheels. Can I simply just transfer these sensors easily between the wheels back and forth. The stock set is winter wheels and the titans the summer wheels? If I leave them off can I disable the warning on the dash by pulling a fuse or something. FIrst truck with tire sensors.

if the 09's are the same as the 07/08's the tpms light cannot be disable as the light is actually a led that is soldered into the cluster.

you could swap them back and forth and risk breaking them, if it was me, i would just keep the sensors is the wheels that would be used more and deal with the darn light. i just put tape over my light.

I agree. Also, I believe the sensor is mounted on the wheel using a metal band that has to be replaced when moving them.

I know the 09 sensor just screws onto the valve stem. I'm buying some extra 09 rims from a fellow forum member and he reused the sensors on his new rims. But he told me the part number was 9L3Z1A189A.

When I enter that part number on tascafordparts.com, it comes up for around $34 each. It lists the sensor for the F150 and Escape. There is a guy on ebay selling some like new takeoff 09 sensors for both of those vehicles. But his part number is totally different. I asked him about my part number and he said it is compatible with the 09 F150 sensors that he sells. But his 09 F150 sensors sell for $80 while his 09 Escape sensors sell for $60. He claims I need to buy the F150 sensors in order to work properly because they have 415Mhz frequency vs. the Escape sensors are 333Mhz. He believes the Ford part reference list is wrong.

I'd recommend getting some extra sensors for your new rims rather than trying to swap them back and forth. That's what I'm doing after I first figure out which sensors to buy (as new takeoffs on ebay to save some money instead of buying them brand new).

That's great. My Expy's sensors are mounted on the valve stem. Much easier and cheaper to move.

So does the sensor screw onto the outside of the valve stem or would one have to dismount the tire from the wheel to remove it?

You have to dismount the tire. Also the valve stem is a special one that allows the sensor to screw into it.

That's how they are on my 05 Expy.
