Does anyone have 285's on their F-150?

I'm intrested in getting some 285/70/17's Destination M/T's for my FX4. I was told by this guy at Tire Rack that 32.7 inches is too tall for the front and it would need a lift or it will rub.
Then another guy at the local Firestone dealer, said going from my current 255's to 285's will affect the ABS,etc.
Can anyone here help?

I have been looking at getting 285/65/18s on my 06 4X4 and they would fit with out a lift/level. The 285/65/18s are 32.6 so I would assume that your 285/70/17s would fit too. As far as ABS I don't see it being an issue, people go a lot bigger than 32.7 with out problems. What year is your truck? It must be older because I didn't think 2004+ FX4s had 17s? Hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm or correct what I said.

I run 285 70 17s with only rubing at full crank in reverse. haha. I've actually only noticed the rub one time and it was slight to none. I'm in a '01 4X4 with no lvl kit or cranked tors.

I think that most the the stock wheels on the fx4's especially are usually 285's...that just the width. You should be fine with the size you mentioned. My 05 FX4 came with bfgoodrich rugged trails as 285-60-18 (basically a 31.5x11.2)and i bought it brand new. So as long as you are 04+ f150 you should have no problems especially if you are running stock wheels.... I dont think the tire guy new what was going on. Ive never heard anything about the ABS crap? I thought ive seen a few trucks on here that are running 33's and stock wheels and no leveling kit. The extra couple inches would help, but i think you will be ok...i guarantee someone smarter then me will correct this if Im wrong...

Both places gave you some misinformation. THe tires will fit easily and will not affect your ABS. Many members here are running 35x12.50's with only a leveling kit and no problems.

Correct, I ran BFG M/T 285/70/17 on my 2003 FX4 with no lift or level. They never rubed or bottomed out. Those tires will look good.

I just put 285/70/17 ATZ's on my truck today from the 255's. No rubbing at all and look perfect, they are a bit heavier though! No problems with my ABS of any such. Go for it, youll love the look!

285s

I've been running 285/70/17s for almost two years and love them. My truck has 3.73 gears and the calculations show they are equal to the stock tires and 3.55 tires. I have about a 2 to 3 mph difference at 65 mph true (gps reading). I love them and they do fill the wheelwell great. Oh, and no leveling.

Not yet but I will be either running BFG 285/65/20's or BFG 325/60/20's

I have an AS 2.5 inch level in the front and 3 inch blocks in the back.

I know for sure the 285's will fit... The 325's may mean triming the inner fender liner back and may rub at full lock.

But yeah, you should be fine with 285's
