Spare Tire Lock

2006 F150 SC. My ignition key would not unlock the cylinder on the rear bumper to get at the spare. Any thoughts?

It should. Did you buy the truck new? If not, maybe the previous owner either replaced the ignition or the spare tire lock. Either that or the lock hasd seized up.

I bought it used just over a year ago. The spare has definately been used before. The key doesn't even go all the way in. I've sprayed WD on it and have been very patient but I'm about to break it off with channel locks.

I too have the problem with the spare lock, and what really makes it risky for me is I only have 1 key for my truck, so if thats f-d up then I'm not mobile.

If you don't have to use your bed, put it in the bed if you can eventually get it off. I have the locking tonneau cover, so no one can steal it. That tire gets so dirty under the truck and when I bought the truck back in Feb, it was put into the bed.

I had trouble with my tailgate lock and spare tire locks the first couple of times I used them. They key would insert all the way, but the lock mechanism just wouldn't turn in either direction. For my situation I had to spray around the lock with penetrating oil and try again. The spare tire had never been removed from my truck, and I doubt the tailgate had ever been locked.

In your case, if they key isn't fully inserting I imagine it is either the wrong key or that there is something stuck inside the keyhole. I'm not sure how to solve the latter, and the former would pretty much require that you get the correct key made for it.
