Larger tires on 20x8.5 Factory rims

Can i get away with using 295/50/20 on the factory 07 Nav 20x8.5 rims? I know the range of that size tire ranges from 8.5-10 inches, but just wondering if anybody has done it here. Right now i have the 275/55 and just wanted to go wider without safety issues.

Thanks!

i have 305/55/20 coopers and it even says on their website that an 8.5'' wide wheel is acceptable for the tire.
