Wow.

How do you like them? Have you had them before? Never ridden with anyone who has them, but they seem to have good reviews?

**Just checked with them. Shipping is nearly 200.00 to here. So although it seems like a good deal, its not really! Hmmmmmm The search continues.

This is a good price.. You may want to look into some LT tires if you do towing. It will help you handle your load better..

I have been tempted to get these tires from Treadepot.com - Cooper Discoverer ATR LT265/70R17 - 6 ply "C" rated - 50,000 mile warranty - OWL - $130.00 Each

I really want to move up to a 285/70/17, but may go with these tires next time based on reputation and price alone... It is a lot of tire for the money..

I agree with you.

I am looking at LT tires. I don't do much 'heavy' towing and have never had a handling issue with P rated tires on my other trucks.

130.00 is a good price. My local tire place has those tires at 168.00 ea OTD. I might actually just get a 275/70-17. About an inch taller and a tad wider. I think they will still look good with the 1.5" level too. The 285's have me hesitant after reading some things about robbing a bit of low end etc...The 3.55 gears are fine for what I do, when I haul I just don't use O/D (better for the tranny anyways) but I feel there might be some added strain with the 285's....

Make any sense?

Firestone Desitnation AT's caught my eye last night too.

I have a few weeks to decide, but I want to put the level on and get the tires/alignment the next day or two after that.

You will lose some power and you will lose about 1/2 mile per gallon with the 285s. I went from 245s to 265s. You will also need to recalibrate the speedometer if you don't want it off. I did this by getting a tuner. I liked my Michelin LT M/Xs a lot. THis was what I had before I went to the 20s. I use them as my winter wheel/tire now.

Thanks for the info. I'll take all of it I can get.

I like the looks of those tires too, but lord are they exp. I know I know you get what you pay for, but will they really be THAT much better?

I love them. Have them on my Expedition and the truck. They are quiet, and very smooth. I do a lot of highway driving and they have held up well. Plus, the traction in all weather has been excellent. If they made the size I want for my 20s, that is what I would get. The 265/70/17s, with a road hazard($90) was about $900 at Discount Tire.

That sounds about right. Bigger are over 1k online.

I can get 285/70 D rated Coopers for 800.00 OTD....But don't want to lose much power if any at all so I'm having reservations...Wish I knew someone with a set that I could swap for a day!

mxzeatr,

As I previously said, I just put my 285s on this week - replacing the junk OEM 255s, so the previous ride and power are fresh in my head. I can't say I have a noticeable power loss, although there has to be some because of the heavier tires and overall diameter change.

I can't speak for a 4.6L, but if you have a 5.4L, don't sweat it.

Thanks rpxr400.

I have the 5.4L. What rear end do you have? I have 3.55's so thats my hesitation.

Sorry - forgot about that. I do have the 3.73s. A little more torque going to the pavement, but from what I've heard, the loss truly isn't significant until you move up to the 35" tires (P315/70-17)

You didn't seem to lose anything though?

General Grabber ATs = 31.1 inches, 44 pounds
Bridgestone Dueler Revos = 32.8 inches, 48 pounds

That seems like a pretty small difference. You may see a slight decrease in low end power, but I really doubt it.

You already mentioned you don't like the stock BF Goodrich (Rugged Trail or Long Trail?) or I would suggest their All Terrains. I have those and the ride is quiet and smooth.

I would go with 285/70/17s. I personally hate the Bridestone tires, the Dueler A/Ts on my old truck wore so fast, about the same as the 255/70/17 Ameritrac's on my F150, and i've got only 13,000 miles with probably only 4,000 miles left.
