Talking Yes, another 35" tire Question..URGENT!!!!

im about to buy the BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM 2's in 35X12.5R18. I only have the 2.5 Leveling kit. Do i absolutely need the Add a leaf as well? im pretty sure i will be fine but the guy at the shop was telling me it isn't recommended to do it on stock rims because the tire is wider than the stock rim recommends without a lift and/or aftermarket rims. I just read a thread of a guy with an 04 with a 2.5 level and a 1.5" add a leaf in the back with the same tires. I don't think they will rub because i will not be putting aftermarket rims on it right away meaning that they wont be sticking out and rubbing on the front valence. I really would like some speedy opinions because i am buying them this evening or tommorow morning. They look absolutely sick with the 35's and dont wanna settle with 33's anymore!!! Whats your input? HELP! Oh Yea also, do i have to worry about backspacing or anything of that sort? Because i have no idea What that means. Thanks!!

Welcome aboard! I'm in the same boat as you. I wore the search button out on this forum over the last week or so. From what I've read you will be fine with stock rims. The majority of people have said their 35x12.50R18 BFG KM2 tires do not rub at all with the level kit. The ones I found that said it did rub at full lock all had after market rims. Now I have found some people with 35" Toyos on stock rims that said they rubbed but not BFG. You should not need the AAL unless you want a bit of a rake back to your truck so when you tow your rear doesn't sag. My dilemna was did I need the 2.5" or 2" to run those tires. Nobody would really answer me solid on that. Everybody I found with the level kit had the 2.5" with 35" tires. The only people with 2" and those tires had the Bilstein shocks set at 2" and not the level block up front. I went ahead and ordered the 2.5" yesterday and will be ordering the tires from my Ford dealer once the level kit is on.

35s on 7.5 rim will fit but it bulges the crown (center of the tire) a little. Dont let it scare you, I plan on running them myself. Just pay close attention to your air pressure and keep them rotated.

You do not need the add a leaf, if you do go to aftermarket wheels then you need to pay close attention to backspacing.

I don't have 35's but I do have 305/50/20 on stock rims with a 2.5 level and an aal. The aal really should't affect anything. My tires are something like 32x11.00. I do get a rub at full lock usually in parking lots on the sway bar. Other than that it isn't a problem. I would guess you will have the same issue with a 35x12.5 and a factory wheel.

Yes, the 35x12.50's will fit fine using the OEM wheels. However, keep this in mind. If you go to an aftermarket wheel with them, you are gonna need more lift or you will have to find an 8 inch wide wheel with 5.5 inches of backspacing. Wheel width and backspacing are as important to fitment as the size of the tire and lift.

They will fit fine on stock wheels with 2-2.5" leveling kits.
They will rub with aftermarket wheels. Any more backspacing and they'll contact the upper control arms. Any less (or wider wheels) and they'll contact the fender (probably could be trimmed and fit okay).
You don't need an add-a-leaf, but can add it (or a taller block) later if you want a little bit of rake.

FYI I have found that to get even wear on stock wheels I have to run 38 psi front and 32-34 in the back. I rotate them every 3k and they are all wearing evenly after 15k miles.

I agree. All of the above information was for a 4x4 truck which sits 2 inches taller than your 4x2. You will need more lift to run 35's. I'd suggest adding a 3 inch body lift or a 6 inch Pro Comp or Fabtech lift.

If you do not want to lift your truck higher, and I realize money is often an issue, maybe you can exchange the 35's for 33's plus the money difference. I apologize that no one asked if it was 2wd vs 4wd earlier.
