How to: 04-08 Removing rear brakes and disks.

After blocking up the truck and removing the wheel, remove the two 10mm bolts holding the caliper in place.

While squeezing the outer clip, pry the top of the caliper outwards.

The caliper should come right off.

If you don't put your truck too high in the air, a 5 gal. bucket works perfect to set the caliper on to get the pads out.

The outer pad must be removed 1st. You need to push IN as you pry UP to clear the pins that fit in the two holes in the caliper.

With the outer pad out of the way, the inner pad slides straight OUTWARD.
If you try to remove this upward you'll break the piston or the fingers that hold the pad in there.

Before puting the new pads in the caliper, you will need to push the caliper piston in (just till it's flush). A C-clamp will work, or a pair of these wide-opening vise-grips.

With that done, you can install your new pads into the caliper, and reverse the order to re-assemble.
If you need to remove the disk, here's what to do.
On the backing plate remove the rubber plug, this allows access to the emergency brake adjusters. (sorry for the blurry pic)

Inside you'll see the star wheel. These loosen by turning CLOCKWISE, turn them alot to give the shoes room to clear the rust lip that may have formed inside.
On the passenger side, push the TOP of it OUTWARD.
On the drivers side, pull the TOP INWARD.

Now IF the disk isn't rusted to the axle-plate, the loosened disk should come right off. If it is rusted, spray it with some penetrant, go have some coffee, then come back, and beat on it with a BFH (Big @*!!#* Hammer).

Good luck!
