285/75/18 Toyo AT

Anyone running this tire in the AT or MT on a 04+? I am looking for something to fill out my wheel wells a little more than the 285/65/18 BFG's. The 2" leveling kit make them look a little small. I like the overall size of the 285/75 Toyo At, but am concerned it will kill performance. Any ideas or experience with this size?

I don't know anything about the Toyos, but I am running Nitto 295/70 R18 with a 2" level. They fill out the wheel wells pretty nice. I have some before & after pics in my album if you want to compare them.

I had toyo mt's in the 285 75 18 size. I got sick of lost performance especially mpg loss/low end power. I sold them and went to 305 60 18's nitto terra grapplers. Its like a whole new truck to drive now. I miss the look of the toyos alot though, it was huge!

Theres pictures in my gallery of them on my truck, check it out.

Those toyos look awesome! I'm worried about the loos of power and mpg though. I wonder how a set of 275/70/18's in the Toyo MT would look?

To be honest i dont think the size was the problem, its the weight of the tire. The toyo mt's are very very heavy, they were 75lbs a piece. my nittos are only 40lbs a piece. The toyo at's is basically the nitto terra grappler. I dont think you will have an issue like I did if you go with the 285 75 18's in the a/t. Do a search there is a member on here with them. I think the last I saw his truck with those tires he posted it in the fx4 truck thread.
The 285 75 18's were the perfect size for looks and they never rubbed ever.
I like the 305 60 18's now too, but nothing like the other size.. but gas aint cheap, lol!!

How much performance you loose depends on your powertrain. The smaller the engine and taller the gears, the more performance loss you'll notice.

Exactly. I guess I should have specified on mine too for thought purposes. 5.4 with 3.73 limited slip.

I've got the 5.4 and 3.73. I have heard that the 35's significantly change mileage and low end power. Do you think that the 275/70/18 Toyo MT would look good, or think that the 285/75/18 is the way to go? Thanks!

I run the BFG KO in a 285/65/20 which is basically the same tire size and really like it. I also have the 5.4 with a 373 limited slip and have not really noticed any drop in performance and only a couple miles per gallon. I got the gas mileage back with a tuner but have no complaints on power when pulling a 20' boat. The Toyo MT's must really be a heavy tire, not sure what the AT's are like.

The toyo m/ts are extremely heavy tire. I thought they weren't bad until I went back to 33" at's.. its like I bought my hemi back compared to the toyo m/ts, mine were 285 75 18 and The shipping label had them at 78lbs a piece I weighed them with half tread or so left when I sold and shipped them and they were 72lbs a piece.

I've got the AT's in 275/70/18 and am very happy with them. They're a little taller than the 285/65/18 option and noticeably bigger than the stock 275/65/18.

IMO if you go that size I would go AT over MT. I think MT's need to be in a larger size in order to look good.

Looks good! I'm leaning towards the AT in the 285/75 size. Hope to have a decision made this week.

Well I certainly hope I am happy with them, I just ordered 20x9 XDs with 33x12.5 Toyo M/Ts, hoping that my custom tuned 5.4L with 3.73 will handle them well.
