'07 F150 SCrew 4x4 20 in rims time to replace Pirellis

Guys - I primarily use the truck as daily driver 50 miles roundtrip to work. But I do hunt a lot and hit the back woods on bad muddy and snowy roads. Currently I have a stock setup with 20" P275/55R20 Scorpions with 49K miles. OK road - sucky otherwise.

I am thinking about a taller tire with some better off road characteristics, but one that will not be loud and will do well on highway - Firestone Destination AT P275/60R20 is what I'm thinking.

Any opinions or other choices? I do not intend to level or lift, but would like a taller option.

A 275/60/20 would be a little taller than what you have now and will have no problems fitting. I love my Cooper Zeons and they are a fairly quiet AT tire. The Toyo Open Country and Nitto Terra Grappler get good reviews on here too. I have also heard good things about the new Goodyear Duratracs and I like the looks of them.

I'd suggest the 285/55-20 (33x11.50) BFG AT KO.

Are they really that much better? Tire Rack Price: $372.00 (each). The Firestones are $200 each with one free, but sizes are very limited...

I do like the sizes AT KO's offer in 20". My tire mgr told me taller is better than wider if changing.

The 285/55 R20 is 11.7 wide and 32.5 wide. My current tire is 11.3 wide and 31.9 tall.

The 285/65R20 is 11.5 wide and 34.7 tall. Could I do that with no problems?

Running the 305-55-20 on stock rims do you have a ny rubbing, Also what is the snow traction like. I am tired of sliding backwords down my friends driveway with my snowmobile trailer. Help me out please need to get tires ASAP.

Yes, but I'd add a leveling kit.

I was trying to avoid that, nothing bigger and 33" without a leveling kit then?

Yes.
And Divtag, I'd stick with a 33 inch tire without a leveling kit.

Wandell - question for you. My local dealers seem to be hesitant when I discuss wanting a larger than OEM size tire (4X4 20" Stock no lift or level). I'm currently with stock Scorpions. One did say that going taller was better than wider. The Goodyear mgr essentially talked me out of changing saying that it would be potentially not a good idea and cause more problems...

A 275 65 20 seemed to be acceptable to Firestone guy. Reading your posts makes me think a 33 in and wide like a 305 is OK w/o rubbing. But what kind of "issues" are these guys (tire mgrs) speaking of?

Is this a reliable guide? If so their 3% warning limits a lot...

yeah they are just steering you away from anything that is not factory recommended or on your door placard. Yes, putting a larger tire that is outside of the recommended rim specs can cause problems but rarely does and usually is only when there is not any regular tire care involved.

Your rims are 8'' wide, so with a 285 you are within the man. guidelines, going up to a 305 would put you just outside of the man. guidelines but you would be fine. I and many others have done this and had no issues whatsoever.
