Polished Alum. Brake Dust Cleaning Question

Alright well, I just took my wheels and tires apart. Trying to get my wheels clean, they are polished aluminum wheels. They have some brake dust baked on that back, not a large or heavy amount but do have some. I have already took soap and water to them and cleaned them out. I'm not sure where to go from here. I don't know that polish will finish cleaning them, I'm afraid not. I have heard of people taking clay bar to get it off. Hopefully someone has been down this road before and can help me out.

(Crappy cell phone picture, doesn't show it to great but you can get an idea)

Not trying to flame you or anything but why are you wanting to polish the inside of the wheels. Heck the outside of mine are just about that bad after this winter. They look pretty good to me I would just get them as clean as you can and slap them back on the truck.

What you want is a wheel polish, you can get Mother's brand polish at walmart in the automotive section. I have used it on my aluminum wheels with success, I bought a polisher that goes in a drill to make my life easier.

Get you some, mothers alum polish, and a powerball, it will clean up good with that, then make sure u put some wax on after to help keep anymore dust from sticking.

You can use MeGuiars rim cleaner. Just wash your rims with soap and water and wash soap off then spray this on it and let it soak from 30 seconds to a minute and then wash off works pretty good.

Another suggestion, see if you can find some Flitz aluminum and plastic polish at a store. I bought mine at the camper dealer to clean the black stains off of my camper, this stuff works wonders. I had lost my bottle until today and I ran out and tryed some on my wheels (unclear coated polished american eagle wheels) and it was amazing. I am stopping by the camper store tomarrow for a new bottle. Also when I say it did wonders I am talking about 2 straight months of salt and snow on the roads driving here in good old WV.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I will try to get more of it off before I polish, I'm afraid I wont be able to remove all of it for polishing. I'm not sure if I'm putting the wheels back on my truck, or selling them. Thats why I want them clean.

If the brake dust is really embedded on there good try some 0000 steel wool and some wd-40. I helped my cousin do this this past weekend for his M/T classic II's {I have the same wheels btw}his are on a ranger- and I'm going to do the same for my M/T's. we got all the grime and crap off and when you use the powerball and some Mothers they will look like new!! you can find 0000 steel wool at Lowe's, Home Depot etc just ask the guys at the counter and they can point you right where it is at

Alright thanks wook, I think I will spend some time trying to clean the other 3 up like this one. Then make a trip over there to get some steel wool see what I can do. I'm really leaning towards selling them, but either way I want to have them looking nice again.
