Brake pads

I guess it's time. 96k on my '07, all highway miles. Any special tools required for brake pad replacement?

Front Brake Pads

I was looking for a piston to depress with a c-clamp, but the caliper housing is solid. How do I release the pressure to remove the pads?

You take the two caliper bolts out, then bump, pry and lift the caliper off the rotor with pads intact. You remove the pads, then take an old one and plce it across the piston and use the C-clamp to compress it.

Break wear

I was surprised to see the front right pads worn completely away on the inside, while the front left still had 3/16" of material remaining. Shouldn't the braking force be more evenly distributed?

Brake Pads

Yep. 96k. Had the braking power been evenly distributed, it would have been more than that. The right side bottomed out with 3/16" remaining on the left. Ford won't admit that this is a flaw, though. All of those miles were highway, by the way. 125 miles six days a week.

Sounds to me like a stuck caliper not a flaw from ford. I see that all the time. Was an inner pad worn more the the outer pad or vise versa on either side?
