That would probably result in our bank accounts permanently separated! Are you still in the Army? If so, thanks for your service. If not, thanks for the service you put in!

I once had a tire fetish (still do) & purchased tires like sneakers. Now I am married with children & purchase tires when they just above the wear bar or 7/32 of tread depth remaining. I had a Jeep for 3 years & purchased 4 sets of tires. A lot of them were tire & wheel combinations. My Expedition is 11 years old with 102,000 miles & it has 3 sets of wheels & 5 sets of tires after the OEM tires. Always think safety.

rhd, thanks. Yeah, I don't have kids yet, but I do have a very practical wife! My truck is an 02 that I've owned since 03, so almost 7 years and I'm at the end of my 3rd set of tires. I got rid of the stock ones right around 20,000 miles because the original owner never rotated them and I had zero wet traction. Went with some ProComp All-Terrain's and got about 55,000 out of those but never was in love with them. They still had tread but couldn't be balanced anymore. Now these Nittos I'm almost at 53,000 miles and thinking its just about time. I've never been a person that likes to wait until something fails before I fix it. I like to be preventative, but don't want to be ridiculous either.

Yeah, I've been happy with them for sure. I love the mud grapplers, just not sure I'd be able to handle the noise. I love my music too! Thats why I'm looking at the Trail Grapplers or the Toyo MT's. They're an aggressive but still manageable road noise tire. I've had a set of the BFG's on my first truck and they lasted a long time for sure, but I felt they were awfully stiff. And with my torsion bars already cranked and on 20" wheels, I would be concerned that it would be way too stiff. Plus although "practical" not sure I could handle 70,000 miles on the same tire!

yea i def get tired of looking at the same tire that long lol...get the grapplers. theyll look sweet. not great on mileage though. the toyos would be a great choice. i went with the mud graps because they were cheaper and i have always liked them. and they finally made them for a 16" rim

Are yours in similar condition to the pictures I posted at the beginning of this thread or worse? Should I just ride on?

I've been pricing both the Nitto Trail Grapplers and the Toyo MTs in a 33x12.50x20 (305/55/20) and I found the Trail Grapplers for 1259.80 and the Toyo's for 1391.80.

Thanks!

I tend to sell my tires with around half tread, when they still work well and they're worth something.
I love new tires! Often the first half of the tread is a softer compound, and they are quieter/smoother and hydroplane less.

Looking at the pictures that were posted, I probably wouldn't replace them just yet, but would start saving a little bit of money each month so that by early summer or so I could go get a new set of rubber and pay cash on the barrel head for it.

If I already had the cash in hand to purchase them, I'd probably set some arbitrary point (maybe 5000 miles or the next scheduled rotation) as the time I would pull the trigger -- especially since you indicate that they still hold well in the water.

I agree that safety is important, but I suspect some guys around here use the safety argument simply as a way to get unsuspecting wives to free up the cash earlier than they otherwise would.....

ddellwo. Did my wife put you up to that? Haha. You're probably right, I go back in for my next rotation in about 3-4,000 miles, so unless something crazy happens, I'll probably shoot for then. Thanks for the input!

Thanks pkent and my wife was actually here and read your post and gave me the green light to get new tires. So I'll probably contact Discount Tire soon and see how they do as far as matching rimzone. Thanks!
