Tires and Gears
Ok, I'm halfway through with my rim and tire purchase and I have a few questions before deciding what size tire to go with. The 18x9 Rockstars are on their way, and in the mail, but I'm trying to decide on whether to go with 35x12.50 or 33" Toyo MTs. BTW this is going on my 07 with a 2.5" AS leveling kit.
I'm not exactly sure what size gears I am running and was wondering if someone could link the door code deal to so I could find out. With that said...
Which size tires should I run depending on the size of the gears? I want to run 35's but if I were to have 3.55 gears, would that be a no no? And if so, I guess the answer would be to go with 33's, eh?
Also, as far as trimming, with the leveling kit and backspacing of the rims being 5mm, what kind of trimming are we talking about here if I were to go with 35's? I know if I were to go with 33's that there would be no trimming. I was told that I would have to trim out half of the fender well twords the engine compartment. Does this sound accurate? Anyways, thanks in advance for your help.

For others to use as a reference. Here is the decoder table that I was looking for earlier.

I was under the impression that FX4s were supposed to come with bigger gears. I feel kind of cheated. I'm not going to change gears unless I were to go with a 6"+ lift.
Toyo makes a 275/70 18 tire which they claim to be 33.6" but the tire calculator I use says that they are 33.2 " and 10.8" wide. Is Toyo's version of this tire actually bigger at 33.6 or are their measurements accurate?
If I were to go with their 33x12.50, would that width be an issue versus the width of the above said tire at 10.8? I would much prefer a wider stance but if the 33.6" is accurate I would rather go that route.

Still that sucks, but it is very easy to look at a door jamb when you are looking for trucks.
Anyway, go with a 33. Not only is it going to be terrible to run a 35 with 3.55s, but fitting a 35 will be tough with those wheel specs. Don't worry, the 33s will look good on aftermarket wheels anyway. I would go with a 12.50 though, a narrow tire will look silly (IMO) on a wide aftermarket wheel.

Why do you feel cheated? It is your own fault that you didn't look before hand.

With 18x9 wheels with 5 inches of BS you would have a good bit of rubbing running the 35x12.5x18 MT's. The 33's are a better choice also with a 3:55 rear end. I'm running 33.5x12x17 (295x70x17) Toyo MT's on 17x9 with 5 inches of BS and have a good bit of clearance in the front. Remember the Toyo MT's have large side lugs and are taller and wider usually then the same size in an all terrain version.
