Putting 305/45/22 tires on a 8.5" rim?

Wanting to put some 22s on my truck (06 4WD XLT screw) this spring. I want 305/45 tires to avoid the rubber band look. (285/55/22 Nitto TG = $1600 Yea Right!!!) Anyways I don't want the wheels to stick out of any, so I was wondering if I could put 305/45s on a 8.5" rim rather than a 9.5" rim. Will this cause problems? Also, any idea of what offset I might need to make the wheels look flush? Thanks!

They should work, but I don't think I've ever seen a 22 inch wheel that narrow. You mentioned not wanting your tire/ wheel to stick out. I have 305/45-22's on 22x9.5 inch Eagle wheels with 6.7 inches of backspacing and they don't stick out at all.

Thanks, it would probably better better to go with a 9.5 anyway. When you say you have 6.7" of backspace, is that the same as saying you have a certain amount of offset?

BS and offset are just two different ways of measuring the same thing. BS is just a lot easier to understand.

Ok sounds good. I appreciate the help. Do you have any rubbing or clearance problems with those wheels?
