35x12.50R20's on stock wheels

Just saw an '09 FX4 on another site with 35's mounted on 20" stock wheels, supposedly with no clearance issues. Anybody have any experience with this?

If you look around here you will find dozens more with 35's. The secret is using the OEM wheels. They will rub the control arms slightly at full steering lock.

I was about to settle for 305/55R20's, but like the taller sidewall and stout look of the 35's. I have a 2 1/2" leveling kit and AAL's in the rear, so it looks like they will fit. I wonder how noisy it is in the cab with full mud tires this size when you're trying to talk hands free?

35's will affect your towing. If you do a lot of heavy towing/hauling, I'd stick with a 33 inch tall tire if you do not want to regear. Also, some fitment problems occur using the OEM 20's because of the backspacing on the wheel. Some members report that some 12.50 inch wide tires, especially those with aggressive sidewall lugs, will touch the upper control arm/ball joint.

Wandell is right. I tried a 35x12.5x20 Mud grappler a couple weeks ago and it touched the upper control arm as soon as I put it on, and that was with a 1/4" spacer. I've seen plenty run the toyo m/ts with 20's and no major problems, but it seems like they would hit on my truck. I am looking at the nitto trail grappler 295/65/20.

The nitto trail grappler in a 35 12.50 will fit great and look great on your truck
