Stock 2004 FX4 tire opinions needed

Hello all,

I kinda lurk around here from time to time just trying to pick up some info or ideas and really respect the opinions of the community. I know I should do some searches (and have done a few), but I'm looking for some straight and simple opinions.

I am about to replace my original Goodyear 275/65/18 Wranglers on my completely stock '04. I am curious about going up in size just a bit for purely look reasons. Anyone out there that has any experience going up to 275/70/18s that has any insight into how it worked out and maybe what you got and where would be appreciated.

I may end up going stock just out of fear of the unknown. I am considering the Bridgestone Revo2 or Pirelli ATRs. Mostly town and city driving with the ability to keep from getting stuck when I do something stupid. Ride, street safety and looks are important.

Pointing me to threads already out there is completely appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I'd suggest a 305/60-18 (33x12.50) or 285/65-18's (33x11.50). If you look at what owners are saying about the OEM Pirelli ATR's you will cross them off your list imediatley. The Bridgestone is a great tire.

Mid-line, hope you don't mind a piggy-back, but I have almost the same question. Wandell seems to be the resident expert.

Same question, except with a 2" AS leveling kit. I'm looking at Terra Grapplers. I know the 275/70/18's should work, but can I clear the 295/70/18's on factory wheels? I'll likely upgrade wheels later, but it'll have to be close to stock specs as I don't want them sticking way out from the fenders.

Thanks for any help ya'll can offer.

Edited to add: Mine's a '05 FX4 Scab Flareside.

You can fit a 35x12.50 with the OEM wheels. They will rub the control arms slightly at full steering lock. Anything small won't rub at all.

Thanks Wandell. I'm back and forth on the 275/70 and 295/70. Just an inch or so, but it makes a difference the way a truck looks. For $20-30 each and the power loss I'll probably stick to the 275/70. I'm sure I can run it with no issues at all.

Thanks again,

David

Don't forget about the 285x65x18 size tires that look good on a stock height or leveled 4x4. Close to 33 inches tall.

Thanks guys for the input. I had myself talked into the stock 275/65/18 Bridgstone Revo 2s. Wondering if anyone has pics of a stock FX4 with 285s on stock 18s without leveling. Also, what kinda of mpg/power do I lose going to that size tire and how much does it mess with the speedo?

Thanks

A 325mm wide tire is just too wide for the OEM 7.5 inch wide wheels.
