Looking at getting firestone destination a/t in 285 70 17. What do you guys think about this tire, I have a 4x4 with 2.5 leveling kit. I also am getting a really good price. Let me know what you guys think

 

i think its a rip off i'd get something better and different for the same price

 

firestone's would be low on my list, but that's just me. are you considering anything else? BFG? Nitto? Toyo? MickeyTs? DCepeks?

 

what kind of price are we talking? i got my dayton timberline a/t's that i had before i bought my duratracs for about $600, which is a house brand tire made by firestone. the timberline a/t is very similar in tread design to the destination a/t. those tires got me through decent mud, four blizzards, and i flat towed a dodge 2500 through a foot and a half of snow about 15 miles with them. they performed pretty well for me. i would probably still have them if i hadn't gone with aftermarket wheels.

 

We ran that exact same tire and size on two of our company trucks (Dodge 1500 4x4) and really liked them. Mostly highway or gravel road driving and were very smooth with great handling, got around in snow very well. Typically Firestone have a softer rubber compound so they may not have lasted as long as a BFG but they rode much better. Definitely better than and out lasted the Nitto all terrains we tried on one of the trucks.

The only reason we did not replace them with the Destination was the price, they were much higher for us than the Goodyear tire.

 

I am still open to other tires but i dont do much off road driving except obx in the summer and the beach near me so im on the sand a little also but for the tires i am paying 620 for all four mounted and balanced.

 

I had a set of these put on last fall for about the same price.. Buddy of mine works at a local tire shop.. I do not have any complaints.. We had some pretty decent snows this
past winter and they did a great job.. I also tow a bass boat and a 26ft travel trailer, and have had no wear issues.. I give them a thumbs up, and would buy them again!

 

When I worked as a mechanic before getting sick and tired of the crooks in the business, I worked for Firestone Tire and Auto, and I was NOT shocked at the Explorers that were flipping due to the Wilderness A/Ts... You wouldn't be able to get Firestones on my truck even if you held a gun to my head...

 

^^^ I've heard similar things, and still have that bad taste in my mouth from the Explorer debacle.

 

Yea i remember that, thats why when my buddy told me he could do those tires i was a little hessitant but i mean for the price i dont think i can do any better

 

what about duractracs like sfams?

 

Ive got those exact tires on my truck. Its definitly more of a street tire than anything but they've seen a fair amount of mud and dirt and they do their job. I would much rather have a m/t though.

 

Don't do it unless you get the LT's as they are a 6 ply tire. I let the guy at the tire shop talk me into getting the P rated and they sucked on my Supercrew. They wore nice but were way to soft. With having the truck leveled out a nice M/T would look great on there. I just got some new Trail Grapplers by Nitto and They are sweet. Nitto makes them in a 295/70/17 too !

 

Firestone has had tire troubles in the past. Mainly with pass car tires. Don't know about the pickup truck tires. I don't think you'll be seeing any on my truck any time soon even though a lot of people run them.

 

Yeah, they have definitely had their problems in the past....I have only ever heard good things about the Firestone Destination A/T though. They are also ranked highly on tirerack.com survey.
