Brakes (yeah, again), braided, ABS, other ?s
Spent the last hour reading a lot of threads here on brakes, better brakes, the best 'dam*' brakes in the world and "I forget where I got 'em" too!
'97 F-150 4.6 196Kplus and still doing nicely thank you. Maintenance.
Have in the past three years put on Brembo OEMs and some nice pads and have decided, since my peddle is nothing to write home about, replace all the brake Fluid (I have a wife who will help - right... with the pumping ;^)
Some questions:
1. ABS - I've read "oh my god, the ABS"... secret bleed society to, "keep the reservoir up and no problems (like that last one). SO BLEEDING my front Disc/read drums (with Rear only ABS) is JUST Like bleeding anything else? Start R_rear, L_rear, etc, etc?? Or do I have to bring in something mystical for the ABS? Thanks on that one.
2. Dot 3 or Dot4 (has original, ouch, fluid in it) and what about synthetic? Any brands of Synthetic or should I just stick with DOT3 and buy Autozone's brand? Thanks again.
3. Braided lines? Should I... I"m kinda thinking YES but so far I've not found any to buy anywhere (even on Ebay which was where the guy who 'forgot' where he got em, got em) and SO WOULD LOVE some vendor to say, "got em cut to the right length already!)
4. "Just" replace the two rear brake cylinders (no, not leaking.. "why would I", because I can? Well, because I hate drums and just wanted to punish myself further? Heck I don't know... I'll triple check 'em but those dang rear drums seems to squeak and kinda lag a bit - wish I could go DISKS back there without a major headache (can't? Can I?)
Well, I appreciate any help. This has been one great Truck and I've been around this forum and GOT tons of help with the few things that have gone tough. Only real expense was the heater core. Not bad for a '97 with nearly 200K on her! Thanks again.

Good, keep those answers coming.
Swapped out some rear Monroe Reflexes for Bilstein HDs and what a difference. Amazing and better than when the Reflexes were new. Will stick to Bilsteins from now on for the truck. [Inquiry - is there a good way to compress the rear shocks on a '97 to get the bottom connections easier? Thanks]
Put some new drums on and carefully (as suggested in one of the great threads) adjusted the rear drums. Wow! A 20% better peddle and I'm happy.
Will 'bleed' / drain all the old soon. Still wondering about ABS? Any big deals in bleeding with ABS? Many thanks.
