2009 F150 Superlift and Tire/Wheel Question - experience readers needed

I have a 2009 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4. I will soon be receiving Superlift's 6" suspension lift. The sales guy at Superlift has been great to work with and he states the information provided by his engineering team is that for my particular truck, with their 6" lift, I am restricted to the below tire and wheel specs.

37" x 12.5" by 18" or 20"

Backspacing: 4" min 5.5" max

Wheel size:

18" tire = 9" rim

20" tire = 9.5" rim

My dilema is that I'm having a difficult time finding the exact wheel and tire combo for their specs and was wondering how much luck any of you may have had swinging up from a tire with a Superlift recommended maximum width of 12.5" to a tire that is 13.5" in width or a max rim recommendation of a 9 - 9.5 to a 10"?

My brother, who has some experience with this, said just buy the bigger wider tires and rims -- it will work, "they" just don't test everything.. I need more reassurance than my bro before I take the plunge on tires/wheels.

Your help and suggestions are appreicated.

Thank you.

I don't recall anyone here with a Superlift kit on an 09-10 F-150, but the lifts for the 04-08's recieved great reviews. As for Superlift's tire/wheel recommendation, I feel certain there is a good reason for the backspacing requirements. I'm surprised you are having issues finding wheels as a 18x9 wheel with 4.5 or 5 inches of backspacing is one of the most common wheel specs for the 04-10 trucks.

For what it is worth, my BDS kit also said you could run 37" tires on it. However, I had to trim the front valance in order to clear my 35's on a +12 offset, (~5" BS) wheel. I also run a -12 offset wheel in the winter and have very minor rubbing on my front mudflap only with them.

My advice would be to count on running 35's with very little trimming, 37's with the perfect setup would probably work with trimming, but possibly limit your wheel options more.

Wow, SuperLift's website doesn't even reference this lift...must be REALLY new! I tend to believe your brother may be right in that because the lift is so new, that their R&D team probably hasn't tested the spectrum of different rims and tires available. I am sure some of that "testing" is left up to customer feedback. If you're sold on this lift, ask for a list of vendors/installers and ask those guys what they see in their shops. You may find your answers there.

In any event good luck and post pics when installed!

Thanks for the replies guys... sweet trucks too.

DeereGeff... I think I remember reading your stock setup included 3.73 gears.... and nothing in your mods about gearing...did you keep the 3.73's with your 35s and what has been the effect of that?

Thank you.
