ABS Light comes on when truck is in drive and begins to move???

2003 F150 SCrew FX4 4.6 141,xxx

Ok so the other day my truck had the ABS light come on, now the truck's brakes do not feel any different at all. Other than the light coming on no changes to the truck at all. I turned the truck once I arrived to my destination. When I came out and turned the truck on the light was gone, so I put it in reverse and still no light. The light returned once I was in drive and moving forward (If i sit still in drive, no light).

I have been reading around the web, and I know of a 'speed sensor' on the rear diff that is a common problem..... I dunno?

Any help/point in the right direction would be awesome

Thanks in advance F150Online!!!!

I've had the same issue since I upgraded to slotted rotors and Ceramic pads. The dealer wants about $100 just to look, so I still don't have an answer. I know that there are a couple people on here who's ABS light has popped on. I've seen threads from time to time; but I can't remember who. Hopefully one of them will see this and post up.

Good luck, and keep us updated if you find out anything.

had this happen few years ago...ended up being front hub bearings going out....quick tell tell is to jack front tires off of the ground and try to move them in and out/rock back and forth (as if you were trying to pull the tires off to change a flat/rotate them)...if there is any play, fix it quick...my mech said he didnt know how my tire hadn't fell off yet

Wait what? because I just replace the front hub bearings on both front back in like March (now June), why would it take so long to have a problem?

Thanks again for you two responders!

do you have rear wheel or four wheel abs? the computer should be storing a code that can be read by someone with the correct equipment. that will lead to a much easier diagnosis than just guessing and replacing parts.

I replaced the rear abs speed sensor and it wasn't the problem, mine was the tire cut the wire on the right front speed sensor. couldn't see the cut until I took the sensor off and then ten minutes later had the new one on and all light's were off. Auto zone doesn't have the right code reader to check for abs codes. Probably the rear one but it's your wallet.
