Whats the best a/t tire for hwy

I have had BFG's before and loved them. but I want a bigger size like a 295/70/18 or a 285/75/18 . So right now it is between BFG, Nitto and Toyo (wich are backorderd forever) I am also willing to take a look at other tires apon recomedations. I will however say I will never put a goodyear tire on any of my cars.

So lets open the flood gates I want to hear the good and bad from all of ya'll.

BTW: I have a 06 2in autospring frt and aal rear and am keeping the stock 18" rims.

I've owned the BFG and the Toyo AT's and also ran Pro Comp's as spares. I would have to go with the BFG AT's mainly because of the ride and the mileage you can get out of them. I would also check out the Mickey Thompson AT's which have gotten favorable comment's on this forum.

I've got Firestone Destination AT's on mine. 30k on them and they show very minimal wear, rotated them 2x now is all. Very good in dry/rain/snow, and seem good off road too, but I don't do much of that anymore so can't compare a lot there. Most all of my driving is done on highways, no matter the weather, so good tires are a must, I'd buy them again, if that means anything.

I've had BFG A/T's on a few of my vehicles, Always loved them. On my cj7 I upgraded to M/T's because of How and where I was driving it. You couldnt go wrong with the A/T unless you need them to be able to sling mud .

Had Nitto Terra Graps in the past, excellent on the highways. Long lasting thread life.

I am leaning toward bfg's due to the "r" rating and less vibration.

I have General Grabber AT2 on mine. I've put 40,000 miles on them and they still have roughly 40-50% tread left. Never had them off-road so not sure what they're like in that aspect of things but I know they're great in snow, rain and dry roads. As of right now they're what I'm going to get next time around too. Only problem I do have with them is the front tires are cupping because my coils/shocks are wore out but that's no fault of the tire, just the owner.

Never ran them, but know a bunch of people who have and have had nothing but good things to say about the toyo a/t. I think the are a fairly good looking tire for an a/t as well. just my thoughts

I have BFG A/T's and they are a great A/T tire.

But if you want a more street friendly A/T, I think the other two would be better choices. They're "glorified highway tires".

I was loking at the general grabber A/T2 in a 35/12.5/18 but I now think the 305/65 bfg is a better tire. problem is its $80 more per tire.

For whatever reason you won't use Goodyear, I've gotten great results with their wrangler AT/S and now Wrangler Silent Armor. Now, size limitations obviously limit choice too, so I'd go Nitto or BFG. Nitto is what I may run next, plus cost is decent too.

Well I guess I need to explain a little more about myself. I am a Master Tech for Land Rover. We have been using Goodyears on our cars for years and only get 15k miles on the wranglers ( and they wear horriably) but when we switched to michellins or contis. the car will go past 30k on thos tires. (btw: We didnt do aligment on those cars just checked them.) So it would stand to reason that a goodyaer is a crap tire. Again just My opinion. As far as tire size goes I have been lookin at 275/70/18 but I really want a bigger tire to help fill in the void since I have a leveing kit frt and rear. Just so everyone knows I do appreciate everyones input, It is a expensive decision that I will have to live with for years to come. I have 37k on my stock bfg's rugged trails and I like them. So I feel as though I should like the BFG A/T. That being said I just wanted to hear from thos that had NItto and Toys A/T.

Thanks to all,
Don

Maybe it's the vehicle and not the tires?!? Shame you feel that way...Silent Armours are getting rave reviews (and it's a good looking tire) and my Wrangler MTR's (Kevlar, not the old tread) are showing signs of being an awesome tire with great mileage for this agressive of a tire.

I went with the BFG AT's over the General Grabber At2 because the difference was only like $8 a tire. I think BFG's are a better tire...not sure if they are $80 a tire better though. Heard great things about the General Grabbers
