35s with a level kit?

I just go an 2006 f150 and i want to put bigger tires on it but i dont want to spend alot of money on a suspension lift.

heres the question... If i put a 2inch or 2.5 inch level kit on my f150 will i be able to run 35 inch mickey thompson radial atzs on my truck without it rubing so bad that it wears down the tire?

I'd like to hear an answer to this as well. I want to put 35"s on my 07 FX4 with stock 20s. Ive heard so many conflicting reports saying 2.5" level will fit them fine, and others saying it will rub without trimming. Can someone clear this up and recommend a 35" tire that wont rub.

Thanks!

First off, if you search this site you would find SO many things about this but I will share a little bit about it. What I have been told is that if you have a 4x4 and you put a leveling kit on it, you can fit 35's without rubbing or doing trimming. If you have a 4x2 and put a leveling kit on it you can fit 33's without rubbing or doing trimming.

thanks, I'm assuming it just depends on the tire width and tread thickness for rubbing issues. from the threads i read on this site and others some people said they had issues, and others did not. hopefully i can throw some 35s on in the near future.

The wheels play a big part if the tires will rub or not. If you run a 35x12.5 on the stock wheels or aftermarket ones with close to stock specs you ought to be OK. That's on a leveled 4x4 too. Also a all-terrain design has less chances to rub then a mud terrain due to the smaller side lug's.

35's on stock 20's will fit with a 2.5" leveling kit. How much trimming is required depends on the actual tire, as does the amount of rubbing on the upper control arm at full lock. The trimming is very minor, it's just some plastic that isn't really visible and can be done with tin snips. I have 325/60/20's which are just a bit bigger than 35x12.50's and needed 1/4" spacers to get them off the upper control arms and it still rubbed a bit at full lock. It wasn't enough to worry about and the thin spacers were cheap.

Aftermarket rims pose a different problem for 35's unless you can find some that have the same backspacing as the stock ones (you'll have to search for that spec) As the tire gets pushed out of the wheelwell more trimming is required and at some point you're cutting metal or they just plain don't fit.

Here's my 07 with 325/60/20's on the factory 20" rims with an AS 2.5" leveling kit and 3" blocks in the rear.

Here's the same setup on my new 2010

You can run 35s on stock wheels on a 4x4 with a 2.5 and they will rub a little when you turn full lock. Other than that your good to go.

DO you find that this setup fits the 2010 better than your '07? Just curious!?

I believe in previous posts DaveM stated less or no rubbing on the 2010
