QUESTION about which wheel will stick out farther?

Hey guys i am looking at putting new rims/tires on my truck and narrowed it down to either the moto metal 951 or cepek torque. The torque is 18x8.5 with 5.5BS(+20mm) or 17X8.5 5"BS(+06mm) i was wondering if it would stick out further than the moto metal which is 18x9 with 5.71" bs i think and if so how muchwould they stick out past my stock twentys?
Thanks

An 8.5 with 5.5 inches of BS will stick out an inch farther than the stock wheels.
An 8.5 with 5 inches of BS will stick out 1.5 inches farther than stock.
An 9 with 5.71 inches of BS will stick out about 1 1/4 inches farther than stock.

The 5" backspace will stick out further then the 5.5". Your looking at about 1.5" further out then the stock set up.

Alright bear with me a second. From this I calculate the OE rim has 5.5" BS (only found 04-07 thread) and you are assuming offsets are equal. Is this correct? Have wondered how all of this is calculated and thought I would ask. What is the OE offset so that when I buy new rims next year I will know? Or does it even matter because all you need are the rim size and BS? Thanks,

Backspacing and offset are two different ways of measuring the same thing. Offset is much harder to understand and visualize for me because it changes with the width of the wheel.

So based on Blue07FX4's latest option, it would stick out about 2" further than stock?

What BS does that work out to be on a 9 inch wide wheel?

So my offset stuff was wrong but I think the correlation Wandell uses for how far it sticks out is this:

Protrusion = (Rim Width - BS)_NEW - (Rim Width - BS)_OLD
Protrusion = (9 - 4.5)_NEW - (7.5 - 5.5)_OLD
Protrusion = 2.5

So 2.5" farther than stock.

I think.

Yep, a 9 inch wheel with 4.5 inches of BS will stick out 2.5 inches farther than the OEM wheel.

With a 18x9 inch wheel with 4.5 inches of BS and a leveling kit, I'd go with a 325/60-18 (33x13.00) or a 305/60-18 (33x12.50).
