New Tires Installed
So, I finally was forced to put a set of tires on the truck. Right rear picked up piece of steel the other night and I couldn't chance riding on the spare any longer.
The original 255/65/17 Michelins were just about shot anyway, and I had actually started saving for replacements; but, unfortunately, I really wasn't quite yet at the point where I could afford the premium set I would have liked, so I ended up settling for the Goodyear Tracker 2 that Walmart had for $132 a piece ($609.00 total).
I never liked the 255/65 on my truck, so I did at least upsize to 265/70, and I am really happy with the way they fill in the wells, but I can already feel a slight difference in power/shift points and braking. Nothing major, but I can notice it.
The 265/70 works out to about a 5% increase in size. I've always heard that 3% is the max you should go when upsizing to avoid any significant impact on power, wear, and handling.
Since I am at the 5% point, is there anything I need to be concerned about? Do I need to take it into the dealer for a ECM reflash or anything?
Thanks!

That will throw off your speedometer/odometer a little. You can go to the dealer and have them reset it for you to make it correct. They normally charge you for 1hr labor on that. In my area that is about $70. Or you can take another approach and do what I did. The Tire Rack carries the hypertech Max Energy Power Programmer. This is a sweet device. The Hypertech system will allow you to recalibrate your vehicles speedometer, do internet updates, tune the vehicle to get better mpg, read and clear diagonostick trouble codes and much more. Unit runs about $380 but for all the features is has and what is does, not a bad investment if your going to keep the vehicle for a long time.
