Talking New wheels and tires, what works best??

Hi all. I'm looking to upgrade my stock wheels and tires on my 2002 f150 4x4 super crew. I'm getting a leveling lift installed, and 18x9 eagle alloys. My question is the tires. I know I want nitto Terra grapplers. But the sizing is confusing me. My stock size is 265/60r17. I want to go as big as I can without any further mods (besides the level kit) my 4x4 shop recommended 275/65/r18 I've read alot of people going bigger. Is this going to be bigger then my stock? Also I see 285/60/r18. What are the differences in these sizes or what size do you all recommend??! Thanks a lot for the help

First of all, you can't install a leveling kit on your 4x4. You have torsion bars so I'm not sure what your shop told you. You just have to have those cranked to gain the front lift to level it out.

torsion bars would be a leveling kit, and if you get aftermarket keys you can gain another 2.5 inches, but dont do it. Wouldn't personally buy a Nitto if I had to. Family owned and now work at a tire shop and never have liked the performance or durability of nitto's and they dont last as long as wal-mart tires.

Nitto mud tires might. Nitto street tires are a different ball game

Yeah i'll agree with you there. Had a buddy that had their drag radials on his mustang and they were awesome and lasted forever. But, all my friends that can afford the over priced truck tires have had bad experiences with them, but continue to buy them because they have the money and they do look good. Although, I wouldn't use a mud grappler if you paid me. Had a friend that had 35 inch mud grapplers and you could honestly hear him coming from over a mile away from the tire noise.

Ok. Despite everyones opinion on nitto, does anybody have any information on the tire sizes in the original post, as to what the difference would be or know how big of a tire I could get? Thanks.

If your going to raise the front 2.5", getting a tire that is 34-35" tall would be a safe bet. The 35" will be a tight fit but will work with little modifications. The 34" tall tires should not be problem. A 315/70R17 would do the trick. That size will be 34.5" tall and fit a 8.5" to 10" wide wheel.

I'd go with the 325/60-18's which are basically a 33x13.00 tire. The smallest I'd use would be a 285/65-18 (33x11.50). Depending on the wheel's backspacing you may have to trim some plastic off the front bumper's lower valance for clearance.

what would happen if i went with a body lift, instead of leveling lift...truth be told its more for show then off-roading.... so i don't know if i need the performance of getting a BDS 6" suspension lift. Does any body recommend body lifts?

ive had 2 Body Lifts and they work great!

you can fit 35's with them. make sure you get a performance accessories body lift.

so going with a 3" Body lift, I could get 35" Tires and not have to worry about rubbing or further modifications?

i had some rubbing but that was very rare. plus your wheels would be more narrow that mine, so you should be fine.
