Rockstar owners.. attention!

Alright.. everyone knows that every "bro" truck has to have rockstars right? Well, here is a step by step way to make your brostars the envy of your "bros" on your next man-date

What fun is having chrome stars when you can have them color-matched? PTM stars he says?! Yes, but first you need to get a few things. For my "brostars" I went and got a collection of 3M and Duplicolor products.

1.) 400 grit 3M wet/dry sand paper
2.) 1500 grit 3M wet/dry sand paper
3.) 2000 grit 3M wet/dry sand paper
4.) Duplicolor scratch filler primer (1 can)
5.) Duplicolor paint (use the paint code in your door to find yours)
6.) Duplicolor high gloss fast drying clear
7.) Allen wrench
8.) Phillips head screwdriver

First you need to remove the center caps using the allen wrench.. there are 4 allen head screws (which I am sure you all know about.. just saying)

After getting those caps off you need to remove the stars via the 5 phillip head screws

Alright, now that you have your brostars out.. get all your stuff together where you are going to be painting them.

You are going to need to rip off a smaller section of the 400 grit sand paper and go to work on the stars. You know you have sanded them to where they need to be when they look super dull. I was hoping to give you guys some sort of idea with this picture.

After getting all of the stars all scuffed up then its a easy as shooting the primer. Dont be timid or shy with it, but definitely do not let it run or blot up. You want to put a decent amount, because you will need to wet-sand and probably do a second coat, but now I am getting ahead of myself.

You will need to let the first coat of primer dry for atleast 50 minutes to a hour before it will be ready to be sanded on or messed with so go grab a beer or whatever you do, and chill out for a hour. Sanding the primer continues with a sheet of 400 grit. Now when you sand the primer, it is very common for there to be places where the primer sands all of the way through so do not worry. That is what second and possible 3rd,4th,5th coats are for. Just remember, that for each coat after the first, you will need to allow atleast 45 minutes to a hour for it to dry before sanding it. At this time I will switching over to pics of an individual star so that you can see clearer . This is either my second or third coat of primer. You will need to primer the star until you sand it and no chrome show through.. like shown below.

After you get all 4 of your stars to look like this (AFTER sanding) then its time to shoot some color. I used Royal Blue Metallic (paint code KM) because that is my paint code obviously, so lets get the color. You will need to be generous with the color. You want to make sure to get every single crack, corner and crevice. I found that its easier to tell if you shine a flashlight on the star to check each lighter spot. Remember 8-10" and random spray... no runs!

Let this color dry for atleast 15 minutes and then get your sheet of 1500 and wetsand it. You are looking for the color to look very faded or dull when you are wetsanding. DO NOT sand all the way through to the primer! I wasnt able to get a picture to compare and contrast the sanded between the not-sanded after color. Must be the blue. So here is the second coat.

Let this coat dry for *10 minutes* and then hit it up with the clear coat. Be even more generous with the clear than you were with the paint. You will need a decent coat in order to make these stars come out looking smooth as glass! No runs people.. that will ruin your day for sure. Make sure to keep your sprayer a good 10" away on the clear so it sprays on even every time. Here she is all cleared up

You will want to let the clear dry for atleast 30 minutes before handling it, and you can re-apply clear as necessary to make it shinier. If done right, then you should not need to buff out or wet sand the last layer of clear because it they will all be so smooth and sexy that you will be calling all your bros to brag and just dying to get them on.

So there you go bro, you got yourself some color matched stars. So put them on, being careful not to scratch them when putting them back in the center caps. Tighten down your phillips screws and what do you know..

Put those suckers back on, and enjoy! You know all your bros will be begging you to paint their stars.. then you can all go out and buy fox stickers. Here you go!

Thanks for the extra pic. Thats a nice touch, something to keep it unique. Have you considered painting the studs too? Kinda like the Jesters have the red ring...
