Questions about tire size and type

Ok i just recently picked up a 97 reg cab v6 f150 and its in need of tires. Ive been researching and researching like crazy to find a good tire for a good price. I found on tirerack i can get a set of General Grabber AT2s size 265/75/16 shipeed to me for 700 bucks. But before i go through with it i just wanted some more opinions on the tire itself although all ive seen so far have been good, and i want to know if that size tire will fit the stock rim. I read on another forum site that it would but id like a couple more opinons on it. You all have alot more experience than i do with these trucks. Its got 235/70's on it right now and they look pretty tiny so id like some bigger but dont want to run into any kind of clearence issues. The truck is mainly driven on the road and im in kentucky so we do get snow, sometimes alot of it. It will be offroad time to time so i need something that grips but i dont need any kind of real aggressive tread or a dedicated offroad tire and from what ive read this tire fits the bill.

thoughts? opinions?

thanks in advance.

I can't vouch for the tire itself, but you will be fine with that size. Recommended rim width is 7-8". I believe OE rims are 7".

Be prepared for a seat of the pants difference, since you are used to the trucks V6 performance with the 235x70s. 265x75 is much bigger.

I felt it when I went from 255x70 to 265x70 and I have a 5.4L.

Your truck will feel like you dropped a four banger in it.

And to answer your next question, gears are about a grand.

well i have to say i didnt take into consideration the seat of the pants difference but im really not to worried about it. Im pretty easy on the truck so i dont think its gonna bother me to much. My main concern is with the tires rubbing when i turn and things like that.

Well, I've had 265x70x16 with stock rims on my regular cab for years without issues, rubbing or otherwise.

A size '75' would be fine.
Never heard complaints on that size here and I've been here awhile.

Well thats good to know. But i just checked tirerack and they are backordered on the 265/75s and Raoul i just looked at a picture of that reg cab you have and i think the 265/70s fill the wheel wells up real nice and they are 100 bucks cheaper and in stock right now so i think ill just order those. Thats a good looking truck by the way and thanks for the advice.

Thanks and your welcome.

Staying with the 70 series will be a little kinder to your truck performance wise.

If your looking for a good all terrain that is to be used mostly on the road, I would go with the Firestone Destination AT's. This tire is really good in the wet and snow, and does have a pretty quite ride on the road. I would go with the "C" load range. It has better ride quality for an F150 over the standard load version and is less money then the Generals. I have tried a lot of all terrains and still like the Destination AT the best. Trie Rack has them for $146 per tire.

Thanks for all the advice and help. I ordered the 265/70s general at2 last night they should be in at the end of the week. I'll try and put up some before and after pictures when I get em on.

I looked at those firestone tires but decided to stick with the generals because of all the great reviews on em. It seemed Luke the firestones had alot if mixed reviews whereas the generals were almost all good.
