NEWB with wheel off set question

Hello I am new to the site and have searched with the search button f.y.i. and did not get the answer I was looking for or am not understanding. Anyway I am looking at a wheel and tire package and found some I think nice looking wheels. They are 18x9 with 295/70 R18 Nitto Trail Grapplers. They have a offset of 30mm and was wondering if this will not stick to far outside the fender on a leveled 2008 FX4? Not looking for something that sticks out more than maybe 1 1/2". I know the diameter is decent at 34" on the tire and throws off the speedo. I am heading to Troyer for a dyno tune next month when I get home from Iraq, and will get the tranny corrected for the oversize tire. I just want an idea on the off set and how it will look with this wheel and tire combo on the truck. Cheers and thank you in advance.

I recently had the exact same issue and the good folks from this forum helped answer my questions, so let me return the favor. The +30 offset will tuck the tires into the wheel well just like stock tires. I went with the +18 offset and my tires stick out past the fenders by about an inch. The -12 offset will set way too far past the fender IMHO. Here are some pics of how mine turned out. XD Monsters 18x9 with 285/65-18 Nitto Trail Grapplers

x2 on everything stp said. Here are some more pictures with the same setup stp has...

If you go with +30mm and the 295/70/18 they will tuck in about 1/2 inch more than mine and stp's setup.

ok so I pulled the trigger and ordered the XD Addicts with 295/70 18's. Thanks for the heads up on the +18mm off set as well. Once I am back home I am going to be busy adding my new exhuast, CAI, and new wheels. I am taking the truck to get tuned, and get the tranny reset for the new diameter of the truck. Just to be safe on the highway speed wise until corrected how much of difference in speed will it be?

I am also a newbe. In inches how much further does the -12 stick out than the +18? I kind of like the looks of the addict -12 along with a set of bushwacker flairs. I think they would compliment one another and look awesome on a black 07 flairside (not worthy of pics yet but will be soon).

TIA

Congrats on the new purchase! I don't think you will be disappointed! Make sure to post some pictures when you get everything installed.

I'm about 7% faster than the speedo indicates (that's calculated - I'm not sure on actual). I went from the factory Pirellis on 20s to 295/70/18.

Just an FYI, I wouldn't put your CAI on until you get a custom tune to account for it. If you put it on before the tune, you run the risk of causing your truck to run significantly lean.

The day after I install the CAI, I am driving down the road to get a custom tune! Thanks for the speed info. I will post pics after everything is on the truck! Thanks Again!

So I guess when you use the search button correctly you get the answers to the question you ask! Thanks BTW.... I should have asked about the need for new TPMS sensors too... Anyway since I failed to purchase them with my new set of wheels, is their any other issues than a blinking message or light for tire pressure I need to be concerned with? 2008 FX4 Thanks

You should be able to take the sensors out your factory wheels and put in the after market ones. The +18 is a food offset for a leveled truck. +30 will stick to far in and -12 to far out causing rubbing issues.

The -12 offset will stick out about 2" past the fenders.

How are you guys liking the Trail Grapplers?? Any off road action? What tires can you compare it to?? I'm torn between these or another set of MTR Kevlars as my next tire.

(sorry to thread-jack, but thought I'd take advantage of getting two of ya in the same place!)

Well finally made it home, got the new rims and tires. Give it a slighty more aggressive stance, and fills the fender wells fairly good. But does rub while full lock in reverse. Nothing bad enough I can't live with. Eventually I will just get a 6" lift. I will get some pics up tomorrow while on the dyno.
