How Thick of a Spacer???

So I learned from another thread you guys have some pretty thin wheel spacers out there...as small as 1/4". I've been shopping for wheels and I have the wheel I want, but the deepest offset they have is -24. I currently have -32, and didn't want to move inboard any further than that, but it ain't gonna happen. I know 8mm doesn't sound like much, but you'll see that with the naked eye. If it's possible to get a good quality, 6-8mm spacer, that'd be awesome.

My question is this though...what's generally the limit on thickness for keeping the stock studs and lug nuts? How thick can you go before longer studs are required?? Cause I'm gonna be right there with a desired thickness of less than 10mm.
