Trail Grappler owners...help me out!
#31
I stole this from another thread by someone that knows more about tires then me....Its funny, half the time people dont read the whole threads and will say go by the manufacturer sticker in the door..????Really? uh, dont have OEM tires anymore...SO anyway here is what i have found and use. It gives you a good start and you can adjust to your towing or make sure your tire tread is level across the pavement. I think this varies a touch betweehn LT tire and the other also, but its a start for you or anyone else.
Good rule of thumb:
P-rated tires not less than 90% of max.
C-rated tires not less than 80% of max
D-rated tires not less than 80% of max
E-rated tires not less than 75% of max
All of these suggestions are for 1/2 ton pick-ups WITHOUT a load other than the weight of the truck plus passengers.
Many people run the C, D, and E rated tires at a lot lower pressures than I've listed but once you start running lower than maxium pressures in LT tires (C, D, E tires) there load capacity diminshes exponentially, so you might as well not even have an LT tire. Especially people who are running "E" tires with 40 PSI of pressure.
