New tire questions. terra vs trail grapplers

hey fellas, ive been looking around here for some forums about nitto tires and i think those are going to be the tires i go with. I will have to be putting some new rubber on in the coming months and Ive narrowed it down to two tires. I like the terra grapplers and the trail grapplers but i cant decide between the two. Most of my driving is on the highway to and from college (80 miles one way but i go home pretty much every weekend) I know these tires are pretty new so longevity reviews arent out yet. I also realize its sort of odd to be caught between and A/T tire and a M/T tire. The terra graps seem llike awesome tires but i really like how the trail graps look. Im new here so i havent had a chance to put up the stats on my truck but i still have the stock 20" wheels but i have installed a 2.5" leveling kit. Im also stuck between the 33" and the 35" tire. Im not opposed to a little trimming but id prefer not to cut big chunks out. I also understand that there may be some regearing issues with the 35's???

So long story short.....Which tire do you all suggest, Which one will last me the best, and which size do i need? I appreciate any help you can give.

I am in the same boat, choosing between the terra's and trail's. the terra's have a very quiet and smooth ride also they are great tires for winter weather. The trail's are better looking tires and supposedly have almost as good winter traction.

the terra's have many more sizes to choose from and are a little cheaper until you get up to the 35's then they are more expensive.

You mentioned you have the stock 20" wheels so they are 8.5" wide and will accept most tires up to 13" wide.

some common upgrade sizes and the alpha numeric conversions for the stock 20's

275/55/20----32x11x20---stock size----terra only
275/60/20----33x11x20---terra only
275/65/20----34x11x20---terra only
305/50/20----32x12x20---terra only
305/55/20----33x12x20---terra and trail
325/60/20----35x13x20---terra only
35x12.50x20--------------trail only

I did a 3"-3" F/R and plan on 35x12.50x20 trails on my truck.

so if i understand correctly then the 305/55/20 will fit my stock rims. Thats good becasue i was thinking that was the size i was going for anyway. Since i have the leveling kit will any triming be necessary? also how will the gears be for a 33" tire? I heard that at 35" you needed to regear and im just curious. For the record i still havent decided between the two so keep the opinions coming!!

O and i live in south texas so snow driving wont be a problem lol

You can run a 305/55/20 on the stock wheels with out any leveling kit on a 4x4 with minor trimming. Since you already have a 2 1/2" kit on you're good to go. The factory 20's are 8.5" wide, after you choose what tire you want, look at the specs for that size tire and see what the minimum width is. Most 305's need a min of an 8" wheel.

the terras list 8.5" as min and 10.5" as max and they were measured on a 9.5" wheel.
or like this 8.5-(9.5)-10.5

the trails are listed as 8.5-(9.5)-11.0

your good to go.

I was going to install the 305/55/20 trails until I discovered the 35's are only 25 bucks more a tire so I said the hell with it I'm going for the 35's.

haha cant argue with that logic. Are you still running stock gears with your 35's? If you are and theres no problems i may go with them as well. Do you have any pics of your truck with the trail graps?

Don't have them yet. I'm waiting on uncle sam to pay back the interest free loan I gave him every payday for the last year. As soon as I get the money I'm ordering the tires. My sig pic shows how it looks right now, I just put my 3" kit on last week. I'm still running the stock 275/55/20 pirellis

IMO if you are on the highway alot get the terra a buddy of mine got 50k out of his all highway. I have the trails and I do not like them at all. They are not lasting at all I have 10-12k on them and are wareing out in record time. As for size I would go with a 33" so you don't lose much fuel eco.

I just got some 325/60/18 Terra Graps for my 07. They look better and more aggressive in person, IMO. I've only had them for a week but I'm really liking how the ride. I thought about 35's and Trail Graps but they just aren't practical for me. If my truck is in the mud it's a bad day. I also didn't want to deal with rubbing or re-gearing or major MPG loss. Tires and wheels went on with no rubbing without a leveling kit.

I had a 2" HBS leveling kit installed yesterday. Picked it up last evening so I haven't even seen it in the daylight yet.

We got a little fresh snow overnight so I'll see how they do today. I'll post some pics this evening if you're interested.
