ABS kicks on for no reason?

Hello, I have my 1999 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4L V8..
about 177k miles..

This is a two-parter..

The other day I was driving on the highway going 65-70.. I start to slow down to get off the exit and my brake pedal barely moves and it feels like my ABS is kicking in. I was not trying to stop any faster than normal, and it was sunny and dry out, no sand, just pavement. This happened 3 or 4 more times during various stopping until finally the ABS light came on and the brakes seem to work fine after that. Would a sensor cause this or is it an ABS module thing?

Also, until I can figure out the problem, what is the best/safest way to disable the ABS system? Pull the fuse? or pull a connector on the ABS module? Thanks for the help!!

sounds like a bad ABS wheel speed sensor... it thinks you locked up your wheel but you didn't. Eventually the module figures this out and disables itself (thats why your light comes on)

Take it to a shop and they should be able to figure out which sensor is bad.

If you want to disable it till then, pull the fuse for ABS.

ABS wheel speed sensor will get erratic readings if you have a faulty or failing front hub.

Be sure to check over the front end real good
