Question stock Goodyear ATS tires, how many miles??

For those of you who have the off road package, how long did your Goodyear ATS tires last?? I have 28k on mine so far and they look like they will last another 10k or so. I was just curious how long before I replace them with Goodyear RTS for a slightly softer ride.

I have the ATS tires on my 99 Flareside 4x4 and have 45K on them. They are just now showing signs of wear. I have to admit that I have rotated them every 5K but other than that, They have been great. The RTS tires do give a slightly softer ride but don't have anywhere near the same traction as the ATS. My friend has the RTS and hates them. Hope this helps.

I have the originals on my truck and just went over 46,500 the other day. The tread depth was checked at 44,300 and they had between 7 and 8 32nds. I am seriously looking for new tires as when i punched it on a wet street to pull out, I was thrown into a 180. Traction is now horrible on wet roads.

OK, thanks guys. That is good news. I can save that $400-$500 and spend it on a trolling motor for the boat. LOL

74000km/44400mi on mine, tread depth at 11/32nd's with rotations every 10k kms.

I wish they would wear out a bit faster, so i can upgrade to something different. But it's ok becuase i can't decide on what i'm going to do for wheels...

NOOOO!!! Don't do it!!! Avoid the RTSs AT ALL COSTS!!! I had them on my 97... in the dry, they are OK, but in the wet, snow, sleet, mud, and sand, they bite the big one! I love the ATSs... they're a bit noisier, but they grip MUCH better in inclement weather!

I have LT245/70R16's with 24,000 miles at about 1/3 worn out -- and love their performance -- but dislike their noise.

I've also found no fewer than 5 different tread styles during walk-arounds in the company parking lot -- and wonder just WTF Goodyear is trying to pull with so many obviously different tires with the same name.

There does seem to be a difference between the "P" series vs the "LT" series -- and wonder whether those who have complained about their RTS tires had the "P" series.

Mine grip like crazy in the rain -- I didn't need any sand in the bed like I did with my ATS on a '97 during the winter -- cuz they gripped the snow like snow tires.

I don't understand why my 7700 series came with LT245's instead of LT265's -- and the tire mileage doesn't seem to look like it will reach the 70,000 miles that I got on my BFG's (my ATS had more than 50% left when I traded it at 42,000 miles) -- so I doubt they are going to give really long life.

I hate the noise from mine as well. I have the LT's also, which might be why they are loud. They do grip good. I had them in mud, snow, sand, and rain, and they have done very well in it all. Now that I'm in FL, all I'll have is rain and an occasional slippery boat ramp. I have almost 29k on mine now and they still have about 40-50% tread left. So I'm expecting to replace them at about 40-45k.

I have to RT/S. I do not like them all that much however, when i was in ohio for our get together they did very well in the mud. I was surprised i did not get stuck with them. I would stil not buy another set tho.

Oh, BTW, i have them in a 265/75/r16 size.

Tire wear

I have Gotten Amazing Milage Out of the Original Tires. Although Mine is a 2WD and Only Sees Construction Site Duty - The Wrangler AP 255 70-16 Just Rolled over 61,000 miles and Still Have 7/32 left. I have never Gotten that kind of milage out of a Goodyear. I Even have a 5 sp and 3.55's. Rotation every 5,000 or If I have Time, Every Oil Change. I can Only Assume that the ATS will be at Least Close. I Am Wondering, Can the 16" Cast Aluminum 5 Spoke Rims (1999) Accept 275- 60 16's? Anybody Know?

1999 v-6 XLT Bright Red
61,000 miles
Airaid Intake
Poweraid Throttle body Spacer

Slapshot,
I agree with GIJoeCam...DON'T do it!! If you want a decent all terrain with a nice ride, try the Dunlop Rover AT's. Wear nice, good wet handling (your being in FL and all), and best of all..affordable! I replaced the RTS on my '97 ORP when I was in Louisiana after nearly skidding through an intersection. The Dunlops were 200% better. Not that Dunlops are the greatest, I just had good luck with 'em. Anything but the RTS. In my opinion, they are unsafe on anything but dry pavement.

What are the prices?

Sam's club has exact replacements for my RT/S @ $99 -- which sounds pretty acceptable.

Y2K,
The Dunlops were in the same price range, can't remember exactly, but 4 tires mounted, balanced, etc. etc. were under $420 at a local tire store (Allied Tire) in Lafayette, LA. I think they were $98 each? I gave all receipts to the guy who bought my truck.
If you like the RTS, go for it, I just had very bad experiences with wet-weather traction using them. Had no issues after getting new tires in the same conditions/roads later.

Exclamation

Dang, y'all get mileage out the wazzo out of tires! I don't have the ORP, but I run the mountains a lot, and I had to rip off the stock Wrangler APs at 30,000, then I went to RTS, and they didn't get that much, I amwith a cheaper tire now for lack of money, but 30k is the most I have ever gotten out of tires, and I four wheel really slow and try to baby my tires.

I don't need all terrain tired anymore. All I do is street driving now. Need something good on pavement and in rain. I'm going to look for a softer riding tire when it's time. The AT/S's are loud and hard riding. I have had VERY good luck with Goodyears and prefer to stay with them. I'll have to do more homework on the RT/S and other Goodyear truck tires.
