Should I go with bigger wheels?

Ok guys, should I go with bigger wheels and tires on my truck. What are the pros and cons? Truck came with 265/60/18 and thinking of going with 275/60/20. How will this effect the ride, power, handling, and braking?

A 275x60x20 is close to a 33x11 inch tire and most of them are P rated. If you have a 4x2 you may have a tight squeeze without a leveling kit. If you have 3.73 gear's performance should not be too bad. Going to a 20 inch wheel over an 18 inch one is personal preference, because the end result is the height and width of the tire no matter what size wheel.

My opinion is that I think it comes down to what you like and what you think looks good since it is your truck. I have a 2008 4x4 that came with 17 in. wheels. I elected to go with bigger wheels and went with 20 in wheels. I prefer the look of bigger wheels. It comes down to personal preference. bigger wheels by themselves will not change the ride of your truck. The wider, taller, and tread pattern of the tire will. There are always factors that you must consider when changing your tire size. bigger tires will get you less mpgs. Do you want looks? functionality? Do you use your truck off road? Is it a street truck? 2x4 or 4x4? is gas mileage critical for you? so on an so forth. These are questions that you have to ask yourself. There is no simple answer. To me, it all boiled down to what I liked. I went with mud tires that I didnt really need but wanted. I think it looks good and coould afford them so I bought them. My advice is that you should do your research and ask questions prior to making a decision. Hey good luck in your search. There are alot of knowledgable guys on this site so use their knowledge and experience in your quest...I did.Just my 2 cents

I have 20"s on my truck and really like them. You gotta watch out when you are wheeling if you do go wheeling that you have less sidewall so you gotta watch out for that. Another this is cost 20" tires arent cheap...All in all I like how they look and thats all that matters. its up to you whether you want the big rim look. I would step it up to a bigger size personally they look good on these trucks with the big wheel wells...

IMHO id stick with the 18s. The tires will be cheaper and you can just get bigger tires if you want the look of a bigger truck. I personally like the look of more sidewall which the 18's provide. However, bigbear is right. It comes down to what you want. I have stock 20s on my truck and I like being able to say i have 20" rims. I just dont like being reminded when it comes time to shell out for tires.

OK Guys, If I decide to stick with the 18s, than what size tires should I go with. I do have a leveling kit and I like the look of the bigger wheels. It just seems in 18s my choices are limited. I have already changed from the stock 265/60/18s to 255/70/18s. I like those ok but they are too narrow. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your input.

Look at the 285x65x18 or a 305x65x18, these look great on a leveled 4x4. The 285's would work on a leveled 4x2.

Joe -
i had that same debate 18 or 20" in the end, i went with 18" & 33.12.5 i have no level, and no rub what soever, i think that size would look good on your truck. Im clearing by easy .5-75" (4x4)

the 20 do cost more indeed

all good info from this site, good luck!

295/70/18. Check out my gallery to see how a leveled 4x4 looks with those tires.
