Get a good M/T and be careful with pot holes and such. I haven't had a flat in years, the Toyos on my old truck were damn awesome, but being as the spare lock seized it would be a pain to get the old spare down anyways.

Id just upgrade spare to 33 so you'd be closer to the right size if something happened, and used 33s are dime a dozen

Well, here's the issue with a 33". If you're not going to match it to what's on the truck, you might as well leave it stock. Anything but accomplishes nothing. Putting a 33" is still off, and if it's off it's off...33", 27", doesn't really matter. It's still gotta go on the front regardless. Now you're just hauling around extra weight for no good reason at all, plus the potential to get it stuck as mentioned. Just a thought. It's not horseshoes...close doesn't count.

but having a 33 on as a spare would about be the equivalent of a kiddie spare for a sedan

A mismatched spare isn't a giant problem as long as you're using it for what it was intended for - getting your vehicle to somewhere close to fix the original tire. People who ride around for a month on the donut are idiots.

The biggest caveat, though, is if you have limited-slip rear. With a limited-slip rear and mismatched rear tires you'll tear up the differential. If you have to run a mismatched tire run it on the front axle in 2wd.

Get a used 35 and put it on a crappy wheel that has enough backspacing to fit. that's what I did. Then I stood it up against the side of the bed and attached it to the bed rail with 2 bungee cords. It worked real good for me and It costs a lot less than any kind of rack haha. It never slid around or fell over either
