Question New BFG Mud Terrain KM?

I read a little on these new tires and saw that they were coming out with more available sizes than the older style M/T's. I was wondering if anyone had any information as far as pricing, which sizes they are coming out with, and or when they will be available.

A search of the BFG website does not indicate the new strain you mentioned. Could these possibly be better than the proven MTs???

Post got a call

I emailed BFG tires about these exact tires and found out that they will be coming out in late august or early september. They have a 33 x11.5x 17 and I think a 35x12.5x17. I was going to run these on the stock rims but they are only 7.5 inches wide and I would have to run them aired down to get them to not crown. These look to be good tires. Now that I know i'll have to buy new rims anyway, i've decided to go with the MTR instead on 16x10 rims.

mistaken

Sorry, the goodyear does come in the 315/75/R16 which correlates to a 34.6x12.4x16 which for all intensive purposes is a 35x12.5 since no 35 stands exactly 35" high. Thanks for pointing it out though.

pretty much the same

Hello all. I work doing tire installations and was surprised when I heard of the new MT. So, I looked into it. The tread design/contact patch is the the same, the biggest difference is the new "Digger lugz" Sidewall. Basically, it looks better from the side but would also be more agressive when you're in "it" deep.
For all you Mudders out there, it is an improvement, so have fun!

The new M/T's will be available in my area in 2 weeks according to my BFG/Michelin dealer. Price for 285/70 R17 is $214 each plus mounting and balancing. Total $236 each. Kinda pricey, but hey, ain't no better tire out there than BFG's in my opinion.

The tire looks great. see it here......

Lots of sizes too. See them here with adobe acrobat ...... http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/catalog/mud_terrain.pdf

Lightbulb compatible

I was wondering if this new size LT285/70R17/D.are these direct replacements for tires that come with the off road package.and will they fit on the rim without any problem.of course these tires will be a bit bigger.do you think i will have problems clearing these tires.i have no lift.i wouldn't want to air the tires down.I was also wondering how many miles do the tires last.

Steel Breez....
I am not sure what you mean by "direct replacements", but I have been doing alot of research concerning bigger tires for the 17" rim and the concensus is that ProComp 33x12.50 17's will fit our 17 inch rims with no lift without scrubbing. Many members of F150online have sent me pics of this tire on their trucks with no lift and have assured me that they do not rub. I was sold on this tire until I learned of BFG's new 285 M/T. The tire is 33x11.50 ( http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/catalog/mud_terrain )
which is narrower than the ProComp tire. (33 inches in height is fine, it is the width than can cause rubbing with our trucks without lift). If 12.50 inches will not rub, then of course 11.50 inches will not rub either.

As far as miles on the M/T, I owned a set BFG M/T (33x12.50 15) on an '80 F-150 that the front end was so worn out, I never had it aligned. I got 44,000 miles on those tires without ever rotating them. I had a warped rim and when I put it on the front at my first tire rotation, it vibrated the steering wheel terribly, so I put it back on the rear and never attempted to rotate the tires again. Pretty impressive tire mileage for a M/T......especially as hard as I drive and considering the ball joints were so badly worn out. I drove that truck for 9 years without ever aligning the front end.

While that tire is not the new M/T that has just been offered by BFG, I have to believe it should deliver similar performance.

Am I wrong thinking the 285 is only offered for 16" Rims? What is the stock # of the tire you are thinking of. I'm very interested in replacing my GoodYears with BFG's with out changing the stock rims. I would like to size up to the 33
s you mentioned.

I had 33's on my `82 F150 ShortBed and like you mentioned, bad alignment, bent rims... You just couldn't kill `em...

Appreciate the info, if available.... Torp!!!
