Backspacing Question

I'm looking at getting some 285/75R18 (34.8x11.3x18") Toyo Open Country on 18" Fuel Hostages.
If I get 4.5" backspacing with -12 offset I should be good to go right? How much will this stick out past the fender? I don't have any flares right now and need to know if I can use the factory FX4 flares or if I need some bushwhackers.
I'll put on a 2.5" level kit also.

I was bored and have been doing some research myself so......

From this offset calculator your new rim will be 23mm closer to the strut and it will extend out 61mm farther than stock. http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

The tire your choosing is only 1/2" wider than stock so with that rim your tire will be 67.35mm (2.65") farther out than stock I believe. Im not 100% possitive I'm figuring this out correctly so hopefully someone else will chime in to let me know if im right or not.

Thanks. That's a ways farther out... but I've already priced out the bushwhackers lol. I know I can run that tire on stock rims without a problem, but haven't seen anyone with aftermarket rims yet...

I tucked some 295s on stock 17s with no rubbing, but this whole backspacing thing is a headache

The 34.8 height and that offset might definitely cause you some rubbing problems.

I know guys fit 35x12.5s with a level kit all the time, I was just wondering what backspacing would work the best for keeping the tire inside the fender as much as possible.

Check out the fitment guide I sent you. Should give you some better answers than I can. Im trying to figure out a setup as well.

Stock rims are +30 offset I believe so -12 is a big difference.

they stick out about 2-3 inches

you will need to trim with that tire size and back spacing

be prepared to trim plastic and metal

So should I try for 5" bs or what? and what metal would need trimmed?

Just realized that stock backspacing is 5.5" and I thought it was 4.5". So a rim with +6mm offset and 5.25" of backspacing would work better, right?

I want to keep the tires as tucked in as possible, without rubbing the a-arm. So if I fit 295s on stock rims with 5.5" backspacing, 285s with 5" should be plenty far away from the suspension... Just thinking outloud lol

Unless you have the heavy duty tow package that comes standard with the scab/8ft config. I also have factory 4.10 gears

Backspace is irrelevant if you don't provide the rim width information.
That being said I would assume the rims are probably 8.5" - 9" wide, if that is correct I would go with the 5.0" backspace. The 285 tire won't have any rubbing issues with a 2.5" level.

My summer set of tires are a BFG 285/65/20 on 9" rims with 5.9" backspace but I have 2" spacers/adapters on it, tires are flush with the outside edge of the factory flares. Winter tires are KM2 35/12.5/17 on a 8.5" rim with 5.5" backspace and even with the spacer do not rub, but they do stick out even with the oem running boards. Pics in my gallery.

How wide are they? check my gallery..ive got two of my trucks with the same offset wheels you are looking for....9"wide with -12 offset or 4.5" of backspacing...you are going to have rubbage with a 34.8" tire...stick with a 33 as my recommendation...if you dont care to trim , then hop toit. You will need a dremel and need to cut a little sheet metal on the rear section of your front fender well. there are some trimming threads you should search for.

That last post with the rim has the info. It's a 18"x9". So I should be set with 5.25" of backspacing, sweet

Thanks for the help guys
