Going from 18's to 17's OK on an 08?

Finally found a set of rims and tires that i think will look good on my truck but the rims are 17x9 (stock is 18").

Before i buy, I wanted to post the specs to make sure I'll have no rubbing issues or any other issues.

Specs:
2008 4x4 Scab Lariat
Wheels - 17x9 Gear Alloy 713 Double pump 6.18 BS (+30 offset)
Tires - Nitto Terra Grapplers 305/70/17 (33.8 x 12)
Lift - (will be leveling at same time - Not sure if 2" or 2.5" yet or what brand)

I would have rather stayed with stock 18's but my wheel choice only came in 17x9 or 20x9 and not crazy about the look of 20's unless it has 35's or bigger. The 17" package is also $500 cheaper.

Any rubbing issues with this setup?
Any problems with brake rotor clearance going down to a 17 inch rim?
Any recommendations on a leveling kit brand? Which ones come with a rear block if I need one?

No other offset with the rims and I think I may be disapointed that the tires wont stick out as far as I was hoping for but I guess I can add a spacer if need be.

i see no problems...smallest wheel you can run is 17 on 04-08
you will need to level with that tire size for zero rubbing or it would rub on the lower control arm

04-12 comes stock with 17-20 inch wheels

Sure. Remember, 18" was an option. 17" is standard and work fine.

I run factory XLT 17's on my Lariat that had factory 18's.

Only issue is Costco likes to sell you exact match tires for you model vehicle. I buy 10-ply tires so they feel comfortable that the tires will handle any load I would put on it.

They work fine.

Sounds good. I was worried about brake rotor clearance cause i was told they use larger rotors when going to the 18" wheels.

I would say 2" if you don't want it to bulldog any. But you can park on level ground and measure to see exactly how much higher your back end is than your front. I would measure from the ground to the bottom of the front door and back door and see what the difference is

This is my old '04 with a 2 1/2 inch leveling kit with 295x70x17 Toyo MT's on 17x8 wheels with 5.5 inches of backspace. Your wheel's will stick out 1/2 inch more then these. The '04 and '05 truck's needed a 2 1/2 inch kit because the rear sat higher. Your '08 should be fine with a 2 inch.

Thanks ....... I'm actually starting to consider getting a kit that raises the front and rear now. The more I look at it This truck is just screaming to be raised.

Any opinions on those kits?

I'd level the front first then see how the truck look's and rides. You can alway's lift the rear later if you need to.

Only problem with that is then i would need a larger lift in the front after raising the rear to keep it level.

I do want a slight rake though.

Some of the kits ive been seeing on ebay have 2.5 front and 1.5 rear like this one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140668592909...84.m1423.l2649

and some have 3.5 front & 1.5 rear like this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350482910554...84.m1423.l2649

and some have 2" front & 1.5" rear like this one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/250863035125...84.m1423.l2649

Im sure there is other sizes as well.

I guess best option is to measure and hope ... lol

I've read about problems with higher front lifts though with the CV boots which concearns me.

That's why I would stay with a 2 inch. Air Bag's may be the best way to lift the rear. You can adjust them as needed especially for towing but they are not as cheap as other option's.
