Which Tires For A 3" PA?

I am having trouble deciding which tires to put with a 3" PA body lift. I still have the stock 17's but there isn't much of a selection for 17" wheels so I figured it would be a good time to move down to 16". I have the tires narrowed down to a few:

285/75/16 - Pathfinder ATR A/S. $480 + cost of warrenty, around $50(?) in store.

305/70/16 - Goodyear AT-S. $663.80 online, total after tax, shipping, warrenty on all 4. $700 in store w/ everything.

305/70/16 - ProComp AT. $535 total after shipping (if I can get them on the 3 for 1 they frequently run). I don't think I can get a warrenty on them.

Is the warrenty really something I need? Have you heard anything about these tires as a reason for to get/not get them?Any pics of a truck with a body lift would be very helpful. Thanks.

Cool My Choice

That is the same lift kit that I have on my truck. I got the 33" (or 305 however you want to say it) ProComp MT's and I love them. They are exceptionally quiet for a mud terrain but they still have that radical aggressive look to them. If I were you I would not get the 285's they will look too small I think. Whatever tire brand or tread pattern you decide on, 305 is a good size for your setup. Hope this helps.

I haven't decided on anything yet. 4 wheel parts said they are having a big sale this month and if they have the three for one deal I will probably go with the 305's, but if they don't then I maight have to go with the 285's due to financial reasons. They are the same height, just 2 cm more narrow, and $200 less expenive. It's not the same when you are 18, instead of 33 with a good paying job, and Mommy and Daddy won't pay for it either. But I figure either way it will look better than what I have now. I want to try and get it done by the end of the month but if I don't it's no big deal. Thanks for the input.

Angry 33 Years Old????

Hey man I am only 20. But I do have a good paying job and I know right where you are coming from. I think that you are mistaken about the 285's being the same height as the 305's. On the metric calculator 285 comes out to be something like 32.2 inches and 305 comes out to either 33.4 or 33.8 inches. When you put your lift on you are going to have a ton of space in your wheel wells. It would be in your best interest to get the biggest size tire that you could. The 285's are definitely going to be better than stock and if that is all you can afford right now, I'm sure that you will be very pleased with them.

You are correct. I have 305/70/17. Go and type that into your calculator and it comes out to be 33.8"! I forgot that you weren't running 17" rims.

Are you running those on the stock rims? I was originally going to but with the lack of selection for 17", and price of the tires, I opted to drop to 16" for better looks, and cost. If I wasn't paying for the new rims right now I would go with the larger tires.

well, I went to discount tire this morning and made a deal, $44 off tires, $40 off wheels, $30 off lug nuts, $5 off stems, I don't remember how much off balancing and all that, plus the $10 or more on tax. After everything, $1100 out the door. Nothing extremely great, but good enough for me.

Unhappy You're killing me

What size did you end up getting???

Yes I am running the stock rims. That was my goal, to keep them. I love the way those 17's look on the F-1

I just went with the 285/75/16. I really wanted to get the 305's, but for an extra $50 a tire, I will have to wait untill I need new tires again. They have to get the wheels from a different store so they don't know if they can get them on today, but by tomorrow for sure. I will get my digital camera from my sister and try to post some pics this week.

Well, got the wheels and tires on today. Look pretty good, except for the fact that they put the wrong wheels on. I was in a hurry and didn't notice when I was there, but I just caled them and the manager is looking for the correct ones at different locations now. They gave me the silver instead of the polished. Maybe I can get some free wheel locks out of this. Other than that they are really nice. I'll try and post pics soon for you.

Side thought, I'm kind of debating about a body lift now. What do you think? I can get one for $120 after shipping and put it on myself, but do you think it is worth it?

Procomp and BF Goodrich are coming out with a 35/12.5/17 inch tire in mud terrain. I believe both went on the market this week. These would be the best for a 3" body. This is what I am going with.
