Smile What would y'all do?

I still have no idea why Ford put a highway tire on a 4x4 truck. Well, I'll take that back. I know they're lighter, ride better, better gas mileage, etc. However, they look like *** on a 4x4 IMHO.

So, I have a chance to get rid of these hideous Goodyear SRA tires (hideous only on a 4x4, mind you) and comp some of the value out of them while they still have value. A friend of mine has a 2WD truck and is needing tires. He wants to buy my tires, and said he'll give me $450 for them.

Obviously, I wasn't gonna look at the SRAs for 40K miles anyway so I think I should take him up on it. What say you?

I'm not going crazy this time around with tire size. I'm thinking a set of BFG TA KO in 275/70/18 should treat me nicely. Besides, I've got 'em priced for a steal at $890 out the door (lifetime balance, rotation, etc).

So, I can get in the BFGs for $890 minus the $450 for my 'old' set...that's pretty close to $440, huh?

Yeah, I should do it, right? May as well get value out of the SRAs while they still have some value. Thoughts?

If you had bought a 4x2 instead of trying to be macho, you would not have this problem.

Hahaha!! Yeah, yeah! Typically, I have to tone down my macho-ness because it's simply too mucho macho!

I actually use the 4x4 function. Imagine that!

Some of the places I launch the boat in the local rivers I fish aren't paved at all. In fact, most of them aren't technically boat ramps! So, I obviously have to have something that'll get my boat, trailer, truck, AND my Sasquatch *** outta there!

I almost did that, but the dealership was very adamant about no switching of the tires, wheels, blah, blah, blah....

Besides, the Terra Grapplers I had on the old truck were HEAV-VEE and would've required immediate leveling to clear, etc.

If you have a chance to sell your OEM tires for that, you'd be crazy not to.

LMAO!!

I don't believe I'll be going with oversized meats this time around. A modest 33" A/T tire will serve my purposes nicely, look much better and not hurt the power/torque and fuel economy so much.

I guess I'm getting slightly more practical in my old(er) age.

Well, Discount Tire told me on two separate ocassions yesterday that they had the BFGs in stock. When I got there this morning, their computer showed they still had six, but they only had three. Considering it's about an hour drive there, I wasn't happy.

So, I told them to sell me Duratracs for the same price since they messed up. After much hem and hawing, they conceded. $888 out the door for 275/70/18 Duratracs. Not a bad deal, I reckon.

I LOVE the look of the truck with these tires, but I didn't really want the racket associated with a more aggressive tire. However, they're much more quiet than my old Trail Grapplers, and they're actually lighter than the BFG TA KO.
