Tire size on stock 18" rims

Hello all,

I'm sure there's a thread on this somewhere, but I just wanted a little personalized feedback if possible.

My current tires (Goodyear Wrangler Silentarmor in 275/65R18) are moving quickly toward the legal limit for tread depth...

I'm in an 06 Lincoln Mark LT, which I understand has 7.5" wide rims. I'd prefer to keep the stock rims.

I have a 3" level in the front, and 1.5" larger blocks in the rear.

Right now, I'm looking at either Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's or Toyo Opencountry MT's.

I know the 285/75R18 will put me at around 35" diameter and should fit on the rims fine, but I wouldn't mind going with a real 35x12.5 tire if I can. It seems almost every manufacturer recommends a larger rim for these, but will I run into any problems with 35x12.5?

The truck sees mostly street/highway use, but the only reason it doesn't see more mud is because of the A/T's on it right now. I'm in Louisiana, so ice/snow performance isn't a factor at all.

P.S.: Any opinions on which of the two brands I should go with? I know people who have one or the other but no one who has been able to test both.

Thanks!

Also, not entirely relevant, but:

anyone running a similar set-up have an estimated MPG I can expect?

You will be fine running that setup, there are plenty of members on here running the same setup. As for the mpg, if you don't have any custom tunes or any other performance upgrades then you can probably expect about 12-13 mpg.

I have a custom 93 octane tune with an SCT X3 installed right now, with stock 3.73 gears, a drop in K&N filter, and an MBRP cat-back and I'm getting mileage somewhere around 11 city, 14-18 highway depending on wind/speed. Then again, driving the speed limit will probably help raise those numbers...

So after doing a bit more research, it looks like my rims are actually different than most F-150 rims: they're 8" wide... I can't find exact backspacing info, but without taking the rim off it looks like about 6".

Also, with the stock size tires on, the upper control arm spindle (I assume that's what it is...the rust colored bar that connects the UCA to either the hub or the LCA or whatever...).

Given this, should I run 33's instead of 35's? I want to avoid as much rubbing as possible. I'd also like to avoid dropping that much cash on tires only to find out that they won't fit.

I guess I could run a size like 285/75R18 to get a 35" equivalent or a 275/70R18 (just feels so close to stock...) to get a 33" while keeping the width closer to 11/11.5".

I've pretty much decided on sticking with the Toyos, and if I get a 33 or 35 with actual 12.5 width, I get an extra 2/32" of tread (can't hurt...)

New 2011 4x4 Ecoboost...want bigger rims/tires and am clueless.

Hi everyone,

Recently bought a new 2011 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 ecoboost. It's my first truck and I love it, but am slowly learning about how to mod it and really need some guidance. I've always had sports/luxury cars and have experience swapping out rims and tires but have never had a truck. It's a whole different world. One thing particularly new to me is thinking of tire sizes in terms of inches of total height/width. That's driving me nuts.

The truck came stock with 18 inch rims and Goodyear Wrangler tires. I haven't looked but I believe they are 275/65-18's. I want to beef up the look of the truck but don't want to go crazy. I want to lift it a little to make room for bigger tires but also want to keep the stock ride and handling as much as possible and not need a ladder to get into the truck. So, no 4 or 6 inch lift, probably just going to go with a 2.5" leveling kit in the front. Not sure what brand is best.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 20" rims, but I've also seen 18"s that look good also. Also want to go to at least a 33 inch tire, because I think that's as big as I can go without running into issues. Is that correct? I have the usual questions...what rim sizes, backspacing, offset would the truck accept without issues? How wide should I be looking to go? I like the look of the Nitto Trail Grapplers (all terrain) and BF Goodwrich T/A's...no mud tires, I need to keep it civil on the highway as well. Also don't want the tires to stick out from the truck too much, although a little looks good in my opinion.

I've spent the past couple of weeks reading the forum and trying to figure out what the best combination of wheel size/tire size would be, but I keep going back and forth and getting myself more confused. What would recommendations from the board be? Love some of the trucks on the forum, just don't know what will work on my truck and what won't without modding past the limit I want to go.

Thanks in advance!
