Clarify tire fit please

I know this has been asked before. But it seems there may be a difference in tires size fit, depending on wether you have a 2x4, or a 4x4, or weather you have the ORP.....I want to know If I can put 265-75-16's on my 97 f-150 extended cab 4x4??...It is not an Off Road Package model....It has 255-70-16's now. Also will it void the extended warranty I have with ford???? thanks Bob

Yes they will fit. I had the 255s on my truck when I got it and later got the 265/75/16s. They are nowhere close to rubbing. If you ever get something to rub something is borken. I now have 285/75/16s and those are no close to rubbing. I have a 4x4 non ORP. I don't think that will void the warranty but you might want to talk to your dealer first.

Thanks,,,,even though it seemed like it had been answered before there was always something a little different about that truck than mine....which could have led to the size not fitting...I measure the tires I have now 255-70-16 and even with only a 1/4 tread life left they look about 29" tall. Did you mention in another post that your braking was affected by the 285's???? I may just decide to go all the way to the 285's...Bob

I would highly reccommend that you get the 285s. I absolutely love mine. Keep in mind that if you get those tires your braking and acceleration will be slightly diminished but not very much. Get the 285s, you won't be disappointed.

285's are definitely the way to go. You'll gain around 1.25" in width and almost 3" in height with no rubbing. I have found that the speedo on my Expedition is off around 10%, but who cares. I've had mine in several times for warranty service with the larger tires and nobody has said anything except how much better my truck looks with the new meats.

I put the 285's on mine after having the 265's. I love them. The truck looks awesome with them.

Thanks for the replys... I went and bought the 265-75-16's. I did not go all the way up to the 285 because I never got a straight answer from the dealer wether it would void the warrant I have. Plus I was worried about the ABS system changes. I figured the 265 were close enough to an option tire for my truck I could convince the warranty people it should not matter. I got 58,000 on the truck and the warranty goes till 100,000....after that I can go as big as I want. I have already used the warranty for about 3,000 worth of repairs...that I only had to pay 150 for.....Bob J
