2009 vs 2012 TPMS Sensors
Hi,
I've tried searching for quite some time but haven't found a definitive answer.
I have a 2009 F150 with the stock wheels/tpms. I'm looking to purchase a set of take-offs from a 2012 F150 (stock wheels w/tpms).
I plan on keeping the 2009 wheels for winter.
I'd like to know if I need to purchase new tpms for the 2012 wheels or will the existing stock 2012 sensors work with my truck? I'm also a little confused on how the reset tool works or if it's even needed.
Can the 2012 sensors be reset to work with my truck?
This is the reset tool I'm looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-FORD-OEM-TPMS-TIRE-PRESSURE-MONITOR-SENSOR-RECALIBRATING-TOOL-8C2Z-1A203-A-/160731420917?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr&hash=item256c56d8f5
My truck is a XL and the take offs are from a Lariat.
Thanks so much!

My understanding is that they are the same. You will need the reset tool to reprogram between winter and summer tires. Just follow the instructions in your owners manual. I must say the price of the tool has gone up since I purchased mine. Was about $25, and that was from the dealer.
Go to Rockauto.com. It shows the same sensor for both years. Also the reset tool on their site is $32.

Then you do not drive more than about 20 miles on each trip. Also probably store 2nd set of tires near where vehicle is stored.

PS, if you had someone put your summers on for you, especially the dealer, they may have done the reset for you.

when I bought the 20s they didn't have tpms so I put them on to make sure I liked them the light came on right away. then bought some sensors off eBay for like 75 bucks. had a shop put them in worked great. switched to winter tires didn't get a light then now switched back to the 20s and no light. so there has to be a reason why it works.

so i did a little research and found that once the truck is taught the sensor it will recognize them when you switch. so the shop taught the truck the first time i had the new sensors installed thats why I can switch back and forth. this is only with the newer Ford vehicles.
