I want to stay with taller tires. but...

My 07 2wd F150 came with P235 70 R17. I switched to P265 70 R17. I am in need for more tires soon. I would like to get an LT tire, but I want to down size the width aspect and keep in the 31.5" height range. Can this be done? So I would like something tall (+30") but less than (10") wide, or at. This would be for less rolling resistance... (gas mileage). Would a LT245 70 R17 work safely on this truck? Yes, No, and if no why not?

The 245/70R17 will be a good bit shorter than 31.5. You need to look at 75 aspect ratio tires to stay in the 31.5 area. A 245/75R17 would be close. To get an LT tire, most will probably be LR E tires.

Why do you want a narrower tire? A 265mm tire is not exactly wide. I just think a 31 or 32 inch tire that is narrower than 265mm/10.50 inch is just gonna look odd.

Interested in opinions on this, too. Bought mine with the BFG's this size(P265/70/R17), interested in a little quieter ride and better economy without losing too much height. Sure like the look, though.

a 245/70/17 will be an inch shorter than what you have now. a 245/75/17 will be the same height, just narrower. looking on tirecrawler there is a decent selection of tires in that size, everything from highway tires to pretty agressive ats

Thanks for the replys. Since my truck is 2wd it sits lower than a 4wd. I like the profile of 31"+ taller tires, but I don't want the wide width (11"). I was just doing some reading about rolling resistance vs gas mileage etc.. So I was just curious if the 245/75 would work. Less resistance plus the height I was looking for. I also found out that I have the 3.55 rear gear, and looking into 3.73 to compensate the tires plus better towing. I'm not interested in 4.10 or lower gears, I just cant see running that low for my regular driving. Keep the questions and suggestions coming, please and thank you.

It will take a lot of miles to recover the cost of regearing and buying new tires. I honestly don't think all of this will be worth maybe gaining 1/2 to 1 mpg.

This is true. But I'm not trying to increase mpg. Just trying not to lose any extra! Thats why I mentioned taller with narrow tread vs 11.5 inches wide on a 32". The 3.73 rear gear is just because I haul and tow on a regular basis--- ford 661 tractor on a 3k lb trailer. Or bed full of wood, equipment. etc... I also drive rural roads (hills, curves, slow drivers!) so I feel the lower gear is more needed for longevity of trany, and to tow better. I just was wondering if any one else has used a narrow tire on these trucks, and did they like it or hate it.
