Ready for new tires...Toyo AT2 285/75/18, 295/70/18, or BFG AT KO 305/65/18?
Hi,
It has been a while since I have posted on here but my truck has not changed in about 4 years. It is time to replace my 305/65/18 BFG AT KOs. They are 4 years old and have just over 50K on them.
A few pieces of info to help with opinions/recommendations...my truck is a 2006 4x4 XLT SCAB with 2" Bilstein 5100s up front and Sky Jacker 1.5" AALs in the rear. I also have a SCT XCal3 and 4.56 gears front and rear. After I upgraded the the 305/65/18s 4 years ago I couldn't stand how the truck drove with 3.55s so I had them replaced with 4.56's.
I'm looking at either replacing the tires with the same tire (305/65/18 BFG AT KOs) or the new Toyo AT2s in either 285/75/18 or 295/70/18s. The BFGs have been great especially the first few years but last winter I did slide around a bit more in the snow especially when turning. The Toyo AT2 looks pretty attractive and would be something different. The Toyo options I'm looking at would also would be slightly bigger diameter which might actually help my mileage since I have 4.56's and run pretty high highway RPMs. Any opinions or recommendations on which tire to go with would be appreciated. Thanks!
Pat

Toyo mud tires last a long time, that's widely accepted and confirmed. The AT2 is pretty new, so we can only go by how their other tires last and perform. I'd be a little concerned with those 295/70/18s (34.26") rubbing, but it would likely be very minor if your current tires fit without rubbing. I saw you're good with either and maybe try the Toyos to get something different on there.

Hey guys, a quick update on my new tire status and some questions. I was told by a couple of shops that my first tire choice (295/70/18) Toyo AT2 was on backorder. Not sure what that is about but I had them try on my second choice which was a 285/75/18 Toyo AT2. From this forum I was led to believe that the 285/75/18 should fit (since it was so narrow) without rubbing. My truck is a 2006 leveled 4 x 4 (Bilstein shocks on 2” setting in the front). The 285/75/18s touched the UCA at full lock and they touched part of the frame in the front at full lock. They were also very close to catching the fender liner. Based on those issues/risks we took them off and put my old tires back on. My old tires are 305/65/18 and I put 50,000 miles on them with no known rubbing issues. Do you guys think it is the diameter of the 285/75 that is the problem (34.8”)? If I can get ahold of 295/70/18’s do you think they will fit without rubbing based on the issues seen with the 285/75s? The 295/70s are 34.3”. Or should I stick with the 305/65/18’s (33.6”) to be safe? As stated in my previous posts I have 4.56 gears so I want the biggest tire I can fit without rubbing.
Thanks!
