Question How big may I go with out a lift?

I wanted to know how big I could go with just factory settings or just raising the front torsion bars? I have a 1998 F-150 4x4 Off Road. I am willing to buy new rims! I was told I was able to fit some 33's but I am not sure! GIVE ME SOME INPUT!!!!!!!!!!

Alot of people are running 285/75/16 or 305/70/16 with no problem. they are both equivelent to a 33. I have also seen a couple of trucks running 315/75/16 with a little torsion tweak. They are 35 inches tall.

I had to put a 3 inch body lift on mine to get 33x12.50 tires on it.
I also had to trim about an inch off the lower part of the plastic below the bumper.

99 4x4

I have asked, or seen asked, questions along this same line. Wandell told me with the 285s, you have to trim a 1/4 to 1/2 inch off. For 305s, a fella told me he took about an inch off. That is with 16x10 rims. With 16x8s, you don't have to trim at all to fit 285s. Hope this helps.

Talking Sizes

I put my 305/70R17 (or 33.8 inch) tires on my truck before my lift kit and they fit fine. The only difference in your truck and mine appears to be rim size. I have the stock 17 inch rims. They didn't rub and I didn't have to trim anything. I didn't adjust my torsion bars either.

I am running 285/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller A/T tires with no problem. When I bought the truck used about a 16 months ago it had 33x12.50 Super Swamper TSL Radials on it. That was on the current wheel. I, like Dargo, have heard of several people on the board in the same situation as myself. I hope my next set will be BFG M/T KM's...the new one. I hope to put 35's on with a lift, but due to insufficient funds, I doubt that will happen. Probably end up with 33's. Good luck, Meek

Question I want 33x12.5 15LT think it will work?

Yes i was wanting to put some 33x12.50 15LT on my truck. I am hoping I won't have to trim or raise anything. The tire I would choose would be BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO's or the new Radial Mud-Terrain T/A! Do you think it will fit on my rig? I hope it does I am almost ready to buy! Thanks!

good luck

Smile 285/75/16's on 16x10 factory alluminum

Hi there! I have now put 35'000 km's on my BFG 285/75/16 AT's with VERY little wear and absolutely no rubbing.....this including situations under maximum suspension flex! I would recommend this mod to anyone. As an added bonus...on flat straetches, when travelling near the speed limit, I have noticed an improvement in mileage. This is NOT the case however in the city, or driving at "normal" hehe highway speeds. Good Luck!

Hope you got rims with a small backspacing if you went with the 15s. I'm still trying to figure out why everyone wants to run 15" rims on their trucks. Virtually all tire manufacturers are making more and more 16" tires. Heck I was looking on Interco's website and of all the new tire sizes they listed most were for 16" rims.

I've been running 285/75/16s on my factory rims for about 9 months and have not had a single problem with them. I can't get them to rub at full articulation. I don't have a picture of the other side, maybe in the video that John shot. But the tire wasn't rubbing anywhere in this shot.

your right about the 15 inch rims. the offroad package has larger calipers and the rims wont work anyway. so in the long run i did go with the 16,s

hey,i put a 3 inch on my 97 offroad with 315 75 16 tires. had to trim the lower valance under the bumper but other than that no problems. if you have a or package on your truck, i found out the 15x10 wont fit because of the calipers.

I have a set of 15x10 wheels on my 4x4 ORP. They fit but the wheel is within an 1/8th of an inch from my front brake caliper. So if you run 15 inch wheels be careful of the placement of sticker weights for balancing.
33 inch tires will fit, without rubbing, on the stock wheels. Aftermarket 4x4 wheels usually have more backspacing which makes them set out wider on the truck, this is where you will have your problems with the 33 inch tires.
