Just how much trimming?

Just how much trimming?
I have received a lot of help from this board so far, and am looking for a little more. I am thinking of putting 16x10 rims with 285/75R16s on my 2000 4wd. I know I will have to do some trimming, and I am wondering if anyone has any pictures of their trim job and just how much will I have to trim if I decide to go with this rim/tire set up? Thanks for all the help.

who said you'd ahve to trim? I've got 33"s on my 2000 (equivalent to 285/75-16) and have had no rubbing, I'm planning on putting the same tires on when I finally get the dough saved up and I don't anticipate rubbing at all. only reason could be you've got 16x10's which might make the tires bulge enough you may have to trim SLIGHTLY but nothing major...

I mounted BFG 285/75s on Eagle 16x10 inch rims. I only had to trim about 1/4 or 1/2 inch off the bottom edge of the lower valance and spoiler. I trimmed up to the edge of the last screw that mounts the spoiler/air dam to the lower valance. It took me about 15 minutes to do it because I was careful and unscrewed the air dam from the lower valance. I looked at another guy who had the same setup on a 98 or 99 f-150 and he didn't have to trim anything because the lower valance was smaller on his truck. I would deffinetly go with the 16x10s because they look better than 16x8s in my opinion. Good luck.

You're right, I couldn't get excited about 16x8s either. It seems the 16 inch rims have a lot more backspacing than 15s. I don't think my 16x10s stick out of the fenderwells any farther than 15x8s on older Fords or Chevys. My wheels don't stick out as far as my 15x8s on my Grand Cherokee or as far as the 15x10 Centerlines did on the 92 Blazer (which I sold to buy my Screw). Sorry but I don't have a digital camera. I would say the outer edge of the rim/tire is just about even with the outer edge of the fender flare when you look at my truck from the front or rear. The plastic valance was easy to trim. I used my pocketknife but a boxcutter or any sharp knife will work. If you want to get a better idea of how 16x10s look, go to f150world.com, go to the gallaries and look for Redwing. He has 305/70 Goodyear MTRs on Eagle 589 series 16x10s without any lift.

Thanks for writing back. I talked with Redwing. He told me he had to do a lot of trimming, but his truck looks great. I hate to beat a dead horse, but I take it that it will be pretty obvious what I need to trim after I buy the rims and tires? It's my understanding that they only rub on full lock. If that is true, then no damage should result from regular driving, that is just until I can get home to trim the valance? Thanks bud for all your help.
