Question 305's or 285's

Im looking to get new tires but im not sure which size to get the 285x75 16 or the 305x70 16, I know these are both about the same diameter? Does one ride better than the other? I have a 2 wheel drive with the fabtech 3.5" spindle lift in the front and 1.5" blocks in the rear and running the stock 16" rims. Thats the other thing will I have a problem mounting either one of these tires on those rims? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

285s

on the stock rims 285s are the way to go.305s are just too wide for the narrow factory rims

I AM RUNNING 285/75/16 ON FACTORY RIMS AND COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. But when I went in and had the 305/75/16 mounted, it looked a little ballooned out. Just kind of strange looking....

And here is the conversion for those 2 tires.....

285/75/16 = 32.8" tire
305/75/16 = 34.1" tire

I would go with a nice 8.5- 10 " rim....

That is just my opinion.......

p.s. StevensBlack4x4 that is a sweet lookin truck !!!!

Well first check your tires sizes here people. He's asking about a 305/70/16 not a 305/75/16. A 305/70/16 is the same height as a 285/75/16. Its just wider. Its not the same as a 305/75/16. But neither of the 305s will fit on stock rims safely. You will have people say "Well I have been doing this for a long time and I haven't had any problems." but it doesn't mean its safe. I'm not sure about fitment on a 2wd with that much lift.

Thanks for all the input. I looked on the Fabtech web site and they claim with that lift I can go up to a 295/75-16. So I think I will be okay as far as clearance goes. I guess I will go for the 285's at least there wont be as much drag with the slightly narrower tire and I can keep my stock rims for the moment. One question, how do I correct the spedo issue on a 2001? Also will the truck be a dog with the bigger tires? How about towing?

Thanks

well

You need a chip to correct the speedo. My buddy put 36s on his truck and we used my gps to tell him what the speedo read when he was really going 70mph.Anyway..... With the 5.4, you won't have to worry about the truck being a dog or lack of towin gpower
