General Amer*550AS P235R16 Safety Problems

In the Nov. 2001 issue of Consumer Reports, they state that the NHTSA has announced that the tires 'General Amer*550AS P235R16 ' have had a failure rate 8 times worse than the Firestone Wilderness AT tires involved in the recalls.

I have these stock on my 01 F-150 Supercab 4x2 5.4L. I can't find the info on the NHTSA site, but I believe it. I see a recall coming for these tires in the very near future. I alerted my dealer's service rep. this morning and I'm waiting for feedback.

Does anyone have any more info on this ???

heh

have fun getting a recall from ford, when the sidewall ripped out of my stock goodyears, from the bead to the middle of the tread, by rubbing a gainst a piece of brush, they wouldn't go good for it. I went to canadian tire, and bought a set of tires there.

Have fun

I wouldn't count on a recall of your tires anytime soon. From earlier reports of the same problem, the failure rate is for tires that were made several years ago. Since that time, the tires underwent a redesign and the failure rate is much lower now. Recognize, this is information from the tiremaker however.

That being said, while the tire delivered adequate dry traction and long wearing mileage, they stunk otherwise.

Take the Generals off of your truck, before you have a blowout.
