Which 265/70r17 For ALL Weather?

I am looking at replacing my Goodyear RTS, with a new tire. The mileage was great on them but I am looking at other options. I really wanted the BFG AT/Ko but mounted and balanced with road hazard was over $900 ($177 a tire). I saw the post about the GY ATS's are these good tires? My roommate had some on his Tahoe when they had it and it seemed to do well. I am really looking for something that will be good for winter driving in the snow. Any Suggestions?

I just spent $905 on BFG A/T KO's in a 265-70-17 and have had the opportunity to try them in snow and mud while up-country on a hunting trip as well as everyday use. Highly recommended IMO.

The Procomp AT's have a severe weather rating. I just bought mine a month ago, so I haven't been able to try them in the snow yet. Also I am not sure they make them in that size, but the 33x12.5x17's will fit no problem. 4 wheel parts has them on sale 4 for 3 right now, so I got mine for a little over $500.

And the Goodyear AT/S is a good replacement at the same size and probably a similar cost. Just for more options...

I'd recommend the BFG's too. I watched a piece of crap 1984 Toyota short-box with BFG All-Terrain KO's pull out a Suburban that was buried to the bumpers in the snow. I was sold at that point. I buried my '91 (that's why we were there watching the Suburban) with 31x11.5x15 Wild Country TXR's. I never got my truck stuck again with the BFG's. I had the BFG's ciped when I bought em too..

The BFG's are a good tire for sure, but with the price they are asking lately I'm with you. On my 97 I replaced the GY's with Pirelli Scorpian A/T's. For about $500 you can't beat them. They do not make them in 17" though. This time on my 2000 when the crappy GY's gave out I got a set of Cooper Discoverer A/T's. For $525 I think they are as good as anything out there 99% of the time. For me a savings of $300 for 4 tires swayed me over the BFG. I've had BFG before, and for the price they charge they are not *that* much better. Especially when I wear a set of tires out every other year.

I just purchased 275-75-17 GoodYear MTR'S for my truck and love them. They also make a 265-75-17.They are quite a bit more agressive than the stock tires but still give a good ride with minimal interior noise.
I checked pricing Tirerack.com and found them for 175.00 plus 15.00 per tire for shipping.Called local G.Y. dealer and got them for 190.00 ea. so shop around, most local dealers will be able to match the internet price

pic of BFG

Just thought I'd ad a photo of my new BFG A/T's. I've had them about a month now and am very happy with them. We're into the rainy season around here now and they handle standing water on the highway very well. No signs of hydroplaning at all. What a difference from those Wrangler R/TS's.

If your tires are worn and you replace them, the new ones ough to perform better. Tires get hard over time due, and obviosly the trad depth wears down so there is les room for water. Anyway, comapring any old worn out tire to a any brand new one is moot.

The BFG is a great tire. It has been for 10 years. I got suck into the hype as well (see WWW for pics). However, I believe the competition has surpassed them in many aspects. If sticking to 265/70R17, I recommend the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo. I had them on my last truck, but chose the BFG this time because I wanted a larger size which wasn't availible in the Revo and I wanted to see if the BFG could live up to its reputation. Besides look, the Revo beats the BFG in all my uses.

I had the Goodyear ATS from the factory and loved them. I got 65000 out of one rotation and I don't cull anything when it comes to off road. But I went with the BFG AT's this time because I wanted a taller tire and got these for 125.00 a piece. I have only had them a couple of weeks, but I did get to try them out the first weekend and they worked pretty good in the mud. We have had a lot of ran here in "Tha Rock" lately and I have had no problems with them sticking to the road. If you can find a good deal I would suggest buying BFG's.

Revo's hands down. The best all around tire i've tried on my 4x4. They are great on dry or wet pavement, and are awesome in snow.

Hello RJLynn67,

I have spent some time looking around for a tire in the same size 265/70-17, and I really like the tread pattern on the Kelly Safari MSR. I called the nearest dealer and the price is not bad either, take a look.
